Zavian Rasiev is an Arafellin Blue Oathsworn Asha'man of the Grey Tower.

Description

At the time of his arrival at the Grey Tower, Zavian's tall figure has the musculature born of a nobleman's training with the sword, and he has the grace of movement to match. Whether he will maintain his physique now that his training has taken a different course only time will tell.

Zavian´s thick, loosely curled hair is the colour of straw, its short cut defying the length dictated by Arafellin fashions. His eyes are dark blue, heated with temper and condescension. Overall he might be considered handsome, but his features are often marred by frowns of irritation and grimaces of distaste.

Biography

The tale of Zavian Rasiev is a simple one. Never has he suffered the tragedies of death and betrayal that have ignited in so many others the flames of vengeance that sooner or later set them on their path to the One Power. He is not a man easily taken over by feelings of sentimentality or love, and seldom does he take risks, so there is little romanticism in his story, if any at all. He was sent to the Grey Tower as part of a pre-arranged agreement, a piece on the gaming board that is politics.

The family that he was born into, an Arafellin House of middle standing, was blessed with numerous children. Zavian and his twin sister, Sabrielle, were the latest additions bar one younger brother. Life in the Borderlands can never be described as simple, for the nobility and commonalty alike. Harsh winters characterised by stone-cracking freezes thaw somewhat into seasons no less treacherous because of the interminable threat of the Blight. But as the scions of a House of some status Zavian and his siblings were afforded whatever comforts are available in the Borderlands, and they lived comparatively well.

As younger children, Zavian and Sabrielle were unlikely to become heads of their House. It was not an impossibility, of course; their elder brothers and sisters were just as susceptible to the ravages and intrigues of disease and politics that bring about the downfall of their counterparts in other nations, and they had the additional danger of the Blight to contend with. But there were enough of them that Zavian and Sabrielle would only take their places in the event of catastrophe.

Needless to say, the twins received the same education and upbringing as their older siblings, but theirs lacked somewhat the purposeful sense of direction that the others followed. Their future contained uncertainties - until, that was, the day the delegation arrived.

The party of Aes Sedai and Asha'man from the Grey Tower was led by the Amyrlin Seat herself, Lelianna Damodred. Zavian and Sabrielle were never privy to the exact nature of the agreement they had come to make with their father and House Rasiev, but it soon became clear that they were to be a part of it. All the children of the Name were tested for the ability to channel the One Power, and only Zavian and Sabrielle tested true. That they would, on their twentieth nameday, be sent for training at the Grey Tower was at least a part of Rasiev's offering in their bargain with the channelers. That they were twins, male and female, served to strengthen the bond. Their future was sealed.

The news that he had the ability to learn to channel the One Power was not, in itself, a burden for Zavian. The Tower's delegates stated in simple words that the taint fouling saidin had been cleansed, and that was satisfactory; everyone knows that Aes Sedai cannot lie, and they claimed that the Asha'man of the Grey Tower are likewise bound. However, Zavian's change of lifestyle will not be an easy one. He is full of the arrogance and self-superiority that his noble upbringing instilled in him, and integrating himself into the Tower, as an equal of many who would otherwise be far below him, will not be straightforward. Whether he will succeed, only time will tell.
