Tarabon is a country situated in the southwest coast of the Westlands. Its capital, Tanchico, is a port situated on the western coast on the Aryth Ocean. Tarabon's eastern border abuts Amadicia, and its northern border is with the Almoth Plain. Its people are called Taraboners.
Description
Tarabon and Arad Doman have a history of small wars between them. For the past three hundred years this conflict has often involved manoeuvring for control of Almoth Plain, which lies just north of Tarabon.
Taraboners call themselves the Tree of Man and claim descent from rulers and nobles of the Age of Legends. It was once even rumoured that Tarabon had a branch or living sapling of Avendesora.
Festivals celebrated in Tarabon that are not celebrated by all nations include the Feast of Abram, Bailene, and the Festival of Lanterns.
Government
Tarabon is ruled jointly by the Panarch and King, who are always of the opposite sex. The Kingship is hereditary, and the Panarch is elected by the Assembly of Lords. The Panarch wears the Crown of the Tree made of gold trefoil leaves and a stole embroidered with trees.
The Panarch is equal to the king in authority, and is responsible for collecting taxes, customs and duties, while he determines how the money is spent. The Panarch has authority over the Civil Watch and the Panarch's Legion, while he controls the rest of the army. She is in charge of all courts with the exception of the High Court of the King.
The Assembly of Lords is comprised of actual lords, though the Assembly's only real power is to vote for the Panarch.
Clothing and Appearance
They have dark, thick hair.
Some have honey-yellow hair with dark eyes; this combination is instantly recognisable as Taraboner trait.
It is considered impolite to completely reveal one’s face except when eating or drinking. Thus, men and women wear transparent veils across their faces. Sometimes people may don a mask to completely hide their features if anonymity is required.
Men from Tarabon usually have facial hair under the veil in the form of a thick mustache. They wear a dark cylindrical cap on their heads. Lords and commoners wear baggy white trousers and coats embroidered with scrollwork on the shoulders. Lords’ coats are made of finer material and have more elaborate embroidery. Loose-fitting shirts with embroidered chests are worn under the coats. Occasionally the trousers are embroidered as well.
Noblewomen wear clinging gowns of thin silk that are almost as revealing as Domani dresses. Peasant women also wear thin fabric, but it is usually wool and is quite coarse by comparison. Women wear their hair in long thin braids.
Household servants wear wool of a finer quality than that worn by peasants. The sigil of the House that employs them is embroidered on the breast.
