Tanwen Scythe is a Ghealdanin Soldier of the Grey Tower.

Description

Tanwen is of average height, with a strong build that comes from having grown up working and labouring for long hours.

His brown hair is unruly, a tangle of curls and waves. He keeps it pulled back and out of his eyes, but it is never truly tamed. He wears the uniform of a Soldier well, but his habit of pulling at the collar and shifting his shoulders shows he is used to much rougher, ill-fitting clothing. He wears the beginning of a fine beard as well, trimmed but not truly neat.

When he is not on Tower business, he has grown to appreciate the nicer clothing access to the merchants has afforded him. He is also what many of the inn workers have called a gem in the rough. A few of the laundresses and cooks have been known to fondly tell him he merely needs a woman to help him find the right cut for his coats.

He has a lean face with defined features, and bright emerald eyes. As an athletic person, he enjoys time riding and in the Gardens, which has helped him keep from getting too bookish looking. He has strong hands and an aura of steadiness about him, and a smooth baritone timbre to his voice. He enjoyed dancing, and will continue to do so once the rules allow him to explore Hama Valon, but for now his chores keep him from getting lazy.

Biography

Tanwen spent his youth on the farm his family had owned for generations. His father and grandfather before him had maintained peace with the King's forces and the occasional Whitecloak patrol by keeping their heads down. With modest means they were never rich enough to tempt theft, but were prosperous enough to help neighbors when times were lean.

Tanwen loved to work the land, spend time with the animals and enjoy the festivals as they arrived. Peddlars and storytellers were always welcome guests, and he devoured their tales of glory. His Mother knew his busy mind and boredom could lead him into trouble, and so she kept a keen eye on him to prevent him from falling into drink and the other vices that many of the farmhands enjoyed.

Tanwen was troubled by terrible dreams much of his late childhood, and as he grew into a young man the dreams got worse. He would awake, drenched in sweat and feeling as if his bones were vibrating through his body. Odd moods, and foul weather plagued the area after truly bad bouts of nightmares. Concerned, his mother wrote to the Grey Tower and he spoke with the Ashaman they sent to Ghealdanin.

Tanwen then discovered he had been born with the spark. He would eventually draw upon the One Power whether he wished to or not. The Ashaman warned the attacks would get worse unless he came to the Grey Tower for training. After a tearful farewell from his Mother and a warm exchange with his father, he has arrived at the Grey Tower to learn and discover what this power meant for him.
