Tad Rikos is an Altaran Soldier of the Grey Tower.
Description
Physically, Tad is much like most Ebou Dari: olive-skinned, with dark eyes that seem to be searching you but maintaining a mischievious glint. He is thinner and shorter than most his age, giving him the appearance of being younger than his 19 years. He has a tendency to be a little frightened of confrontation because of his stature, but is certainly capable of handling himself. When traveling outside the Tower, he always wears a pair of simple daggers, each with a blade nearly a foot in length, strapped across the small of his back.
Eimon is never far from Tad's side, especially when not in class or otherwise disposed. The two had been friends and lovers long before the Warder bond, so Eimon's knowledge of Tad's nuances, including his quick temper, are extensive and he always uses them to tease and prod his beloved. A quiet man, Eimon has shoulders wide enough for a blacksmith, and arms thick as branches. Otherwise, he could be Tad's brother, except for the larger, hooked nose he inherited from his outlander mother. His weapons of choice are a pair of short swords he acquired since arriving at the Tower. For all intents and purposes, Eimon will be played as an NPC, who comes and goes in Tad's life. He is as much a part of Tad's character as Tad himself, but he will progress through his training at a natural pace, making no special name for himself. He is, after all, not the focus here.
Biography
A small and slender whip of a boy, Tad grew up in the Rahad, the dangerous and sometimes deadly poor district of Altara's capital, Ebou Dar. Along the way, he met another young boy, by the name of Eimon Thepolus, and the two became quick friends. Both orphans, they found companionship in each other and shelter in the home of one Mistress Alcure, an innkeeper who took the boys under her wing when she realised what they had to do to make their evening meals. She was a harsh mistress, forcing the boys to muck the stables daily among other odious tasks, but she fussed over them like a the mother she was. All in all, the boys grew up very happily, causing mischief when they could but generally looking out for each other.
After a few years, the relationship between Tad and Eimon began to change and become more than just friendship. Mistress Alcure was well aware of the boys' relationship, but kept it hidden, for fear they would be persecuted. They were nonetheless, but Eimon had grown into a rather strong young man, and Tad's small size allowed him to slip out of danger when necessary, so the boys were able to protect themselves when necessary.
An incident of such persecution changed their lives forever. Once, after driving off a band of thugs who had managed to club Eimon into unconsciousness with the Power, Tad unknowingly bonded the other young man as his Warder, in a desperate attempt to keep him alive. Frightened by his newfound abilities as well as by the possibility of Eimon's negative reaction, Tad fled, seeking haven in the nearby countryside. Before long, he fell ill and was found by Eimon. Without fear or regard for his own life, the new Warder had followed the clump of feelings in his mind, recognizing it as Tad. After a tearful and joyous reunion, the two decided that the best course of action would be to seek a place where Tad could learn to control his new abilities, instead of stabbing blindly in the dark. Thus, they headed to the Grey Tower.
