Sigrid Kavaroy is an Arafellin Drin of the Grey Tower.

Description

Sigrid is a tall girl- around 5’6- with long, brownish- blonde hair and large grey eyes. She has a lanky, wiry physique, and is quick on her feet- what she may lack in brute strength, she more than makes up for in speed. This is not to say that she is weak, however- having spent most of her life on a farm, she is physically strong and capable of hard work. She has a crescent- moon shaped scar on her chin from a childhood accident, though it is so small most people don’t notice it. More noticeable is the scar above her left eye. Thin and pale, it reaches from her hairline almost to her left eyebrow, and it was gained during a Trolloc raid on her family’s farm.

Altogether, Sigrid is merely average in the looks department- though she will probably never be called beautiful, she isn't unattractive either. Like most Arafellins, she wears her hair in braids with bells attached.

Sigrid is basically a friendly person, but she does have a smart mouth. She is rarely impulsive, except when it comes to her mouth- she has a tendency to say something without thinking, which has been known to get her into trouble. Outside of that, she isn't especially talkative, but definitely is not shy and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Her worst flaw is her stubbornness- she will dig her heels in once she makes up her mind, and is not good at knowing when to admit defeat. Being an Arafellin, she also has some firm ideas about honor and debts, and is not immune to the occasional bad temper.

Biography

Sigrid was born on a farm in southern Arafel, not far from the border with Kandor. Her family wasn't particularly wealthy, but they weren't poor either, and so her childhood was fairly comfortable and happy enough.

Growing up, she was always closer to her older brother Mathias than anyone else. Not only did they look alike, with the same blonde hair and grey eyes, but their personalities were also barely dissimilar, with the same smart mouth, stubbornness, quiet demeanor, and enjoyment of the occasional prank (usually played against their older sister Emeline, who annoyed both of them on a regular basis). They were only a year apart, and their mother always said they should have been twins.

Everything changed, though, when Mathias announced his attention to go to someplace called the Grey Tower, near Baerlon, to train as a warder. He'd always loved stories about warders and Aes Sedai, and had mentioned more than once how much he would like to train as a gaidin, so it wasn't entirely unexpected.

Still, it came as a surprise to hear that he was actually planning to go- Sigrid, in particular, had never really expected Mathias to leave for the Tower. Why would he give up their cozy farm, with all its comforts for the rough training and hard life of a warder? Not that times weren't sometimes difficult on their farm, but it was nothing compared to what life as a warder would be like. The tales made it seem glamourous, with adventure and glory around every corner, but Sigrid had always suspected the reality was far different.

Neither were their parents pleased with his decision - gaidin and gaidar were well respected in the Borderlands, and it was considered an honor to have one in the family- but they insisted that at fifteen, he was much too young to make such a decision. Mathias disagreed, which lead to a rather heated fight between him and their parents, ending with Mathias packing his bags and slipping off in the middle of the night.

Their parents were furious.

Sigrid didn't know whose side to take- she didn't see anything wrong with Mathias training as a gaidin, and fifteen wasn't truly too young, as many Arafellin soldiers began training at around the same age. But on the other hand, she understood their parents' concern, and she really wasn't happy with losing her favorite sibling and best friend to the Tower.

Still, what was done was done, and she knew it was unlikely Mathias would change his mind and come home- like her, he had a tendency to dig in his heels once he made a decision. His departure also got her wondering if she could be a warder, too.

She didn’t know much about weapons- she knew how to use a knife, but that was it- but then, neither did her brother. And from what he had said before leaving, most of the trainees that went to the Tower didn’t have much training with weapons. Maybe they could teach her.

Sigrid had never been one for taking risks or having adventures, but neither did she truly want to spend her entire life on a farm in Arafel. She wouldn’t mind seeing a little of the world, at least. And part of her was curious to see if she could do it- if she could handle the training and even become a full gaidar. And if she could… well, wouldn’t that be better than a lifetime of farming? There was nothing wrong with being a farmer, of course, but if she were honest, she wanted something different for her life.

In the end, Sigrid decided that yes, she did want to follow her brother to the Tower. Her parents were no more pleased with her than they had been with Mathias, but to her surprise, they didn’t forbid her to go. Perhaps they regretted the way they’d handled Mathias, or perhaps they thought she could keep an eye on her brother, but they didn’t try to stop her.

Instead, they wished her luck, and provided her with enough supplies to last several months and an old sword of her father’s. It was a bit dented, but she thought it would do, at least for a while. A family friend who was a merchant was traveling south to Ilian and offered to take her to Baerlon on his way. Sigrid accepted the offer and left for the Tower two days later.
