Shyne is an Arafellin Wolfkin and Gaidin of the Grey Tower.

Description

Shyne is average height for an Arafellin, but somewhat broader. Years of training has he has, before and after gaining the fancloth, have left him stockier than most might ever achieve. He usually wears his two warder's swords in a cross pattern on his back, one hilt sticking above each shoulder. His pale skin, scarred from more spars and battles than he cares to remember, doesn't seem to tan no matter how much time he spends outside. His wolfish yellow eyes are always moving, watching, wary of danger. His blonde hair, worn in two braids down the back of his head in the Arafellin fashion, lack bells whenever he is stalking or doing his woodcraft, but he replaces them in most other situations.

He's quiet, and reserved, very sure of himself, but hesitant to judge others. He's very forgiving, as he himself is hoping to be forgiven. He's also the kind of guy that will, for example, tell you straight out that you're a complete idiot from drinking alcohol, but never once tell you that you should stop. It's the same way with anything he feels that strongly about (which isn't much). With his friends he is quite content to be a follower and to only speak when he feels necessary. He's exactly the kind of person you don't seem to realize is there until he's gone.

Of late, he's taken to spending quite a bit of time brooding. His situation as a general nuisance within the Warder Yards has taken its toll on his emotional well-being and he's not against ranting about it at length to anyone who brings it up, which most often tends to be whoever he happens to be bonded to.

Biography

Shyne, who has left his last name behind to avoid pursuit, was once a common soldier in one of the many Arafellin brigades. He used to belong to a noble family, but as a youth, his estates were overrun by trollocs and when he returned from a visit to his cousin, after hearing the news, all that he could find in the rubble of his home was his fathers two heron-branded warder's swords, his family heirlooms. He's kept the swords and, after his uncle took control of what remained of the estates, learned something of how to use them in the military. That was also where he got his scythesword, scavanged from the first trolloc he killed in his battles within the Blight. His present predicament, however, began the night he first got drunk. His company had just returned from a very succesful escapade into the Blight and they were celebrating. He ended up drinking to excess... then, in his drunkeness, raping and killing one of the army laundresses. During that brief mo! ment of comprehension after the act, he realized what he'd done and immediately gathered all of his things and left, on the run, knowing that someone must have discovered his deed not long after he escaped and they must now be coming after him. So he's running. He took immediately to the woods, and for the past year has been traveling much of the continent, staying far from civilization whenever possible, but sometimes driven into it by curiosity or some such feeling. It's only when he's in towns and cities, though, that his newest companion strays from his side. He's still not sure why the shewolf started following him, or why he understands her sometimes, but he figures he must be going crazy from guilt at his horrible crime. He's also forsaken all drinks but water, which is the only liquid that has touched his lips since his flight from Arafel. The brunt of his current quest is to find a Blademaster that can teach him how to wield his swords properly.

Shyne didn't leave, per se, as much as fade into the background. He was saved from his madness all that time ago by his bond with friend, confidant, and lover Evi Silver, but after a while of being moderately happy together, he awoke one morning to someone else in his head. She'd said nothing of leaving, and less of passing his bond on to another, but she was gone. Needless to say, he was not okay with the way things turned out.

Instead, he saw it as a disturbing slight against him. Here was a woman he'd loved, the first woman he'd loved in a very long time, and she'd betrayed him almost as fully as he'd betrayed the first. She obviously did not trust him to protect her, or worse, sought to protect him from whatever it was she was doing. What had their relationship been, then, that she could so simply step away from it?

And so he was unhappy. His new ward very quickly tired of his brooding, and after less than a year felt it best he be given to someone more capable of helping him. This person, too, did nothing for him but frustrate him. He was passed around as often as his wards could find an excuse to do so, leading to nothing but more and more resentment and frustration from him. Bitter and unfortunately alone, he took solace in what free time he was allowed, which was sometimes too much and sometimes not enough, depending on what he present ward thought might be best for him.
