Ryne Machera II was a Hama Valoner Gaidin of the Grey Tower.

Ryne is tall - roughly nineteen and a half hands tall (6'6"), like his father. In most all of his physical appearance, he takes after his Malkieri father but for the Saldaean shape of his eyes. His face is angular and rough, tanned from years working in the Warder Yards and out in the world, though icy blue eyes sit in that face. His hair is brown and worn long, with a single leather band around his forehead to keep it back and tied at the nape of the neck. His age is showing in the lines at the corners of his eyes and the grey threading its way through his hair. Even so, he remains lean, wiry, and fit.

Ryne Machera the Second was born the first and only child of Ryne Machera Gaidin and his wife Miahala Machera Sedai. He spent far more time with his mother, for his father was too often pulled back to the dead land of Malkier and was rarely in the Tower through his son's youth until he finally perished in the Blight. Ryne II - called Rynny - was seven years old. He grew up a true child of the Tower.

Although Miahala was always his mother, it could be said he had many aunts and uncles who helped to raise him, and he would grow close to his step-father, the man who married his mother a year after his father's passing: Darien Jolstraer Asha'man.

Growing into a young man, Rynny was rebellious and uncertain of his place in life. Although Darien did all he could and Rynny was assured of the love of his mother and step-father, the abandonment of his father to a cause the boy never understood left him uncertain in the world, and he went to live with his uncle in Baerlon for a time. It was here that he spent years living on a farm, working and adjusting to a 'normal' family life until he could return to the Tower a far more grounded man.

Upon his return, he joined the Warder Yards, for he had not the talent for Channeling yet wanted to follow in the footsteps of his parents.

In appearance he was much like his father, but his temperament took after his mother. Being the child of a Green served him well in the Tower's Warder Yards, as did an adolescence of hard work. He grew up as a Dreamer, like his mother, and learned the skills of managing and training warhorses from her. He also helped watch over his younger siblings, because even though they did not share a father, they shared a mother and he took it upon himself to be their older brother.

Strangely, he'd walk the path of his father - he would become a Gaidin, learn the sword and bond a Green, and yet still be more like his mother.

His Aes Sedai was named Quitara. She was less outspoken than most Greens, but just as fierce in battle. The pair would spend most of their time out of the Tower, fighting what battles they were needed to assist on. They were Aes Sedai and Warder, and the best of friends, but they were never romantically attached. They worked hard and spent most of their time together all the same during the many long years they were bonded.

She would perish before him, though. It was a freak moment in battle - a miscalculation on her part, and just like that, she was lost to him. His comrades - a fellow Gaidin with them - brought Ryne back to the Tower before he could kill himself in the remnants of the fight. It was the love, stalwart dedication and immense strength of will of his mother that would keep Ryne from seeking his own death. It would be her thread connected to his in the pattern that would hold him to the world until he would re-bond to a Yellow named Thea.

By the time he bonded Thea, he was no longer young - yet his bond to Quitara had kept him fit and he was still useful. As a Yellow, Thea was less frequent to leave the Tower for battle and so he was a suitable choice for her. She was young, but had a gentle and kind heart that helped to heal the hole in his and find a path again for him in life, which he has wholly embraced.
