Relinda Malashima is a Cairhienin Novice of the Grey Tower.

Description

Like most of her fellow Cairhiens, Relinda Malashima can be cold and aloof, preferring to hide her thoughts and emotions while analyzing the actions of those around her. She grew up on the Game of Houses, and she firmly believes that everyone has a hidden motivation behind their actions. And like most Cairhiens, Relinda is prone to an emotional outburst on the rare occasion, especially when she is presented with a situation that involves something she is very passionate about.

Relinda is a mere five foot one, with dark ebony hair that falls to her waist if she chooses to leave it down - which is not often. She has the pale Cairhien skin and is quite petite. However she possesses one trait which is decidedly not Cairhien - she has sharp blue eyes that make her appear to be more critical than ever.

Whenever Relinda is annoyed, she raises one eyebrow and tilts her head slightly to the left, as if confused as to why you are attempting to annoy her. This is usually followed by some biting comment and the person doing the annoying is usually scared away.

Biography

Relinda is the daughter of a Major Cairhien house - the unnamed House of Maringil. She grew up amid the manipulative turmoil that one would expect in Cairhien. For years her family helped to pull the strings of whoever sat upon the Sun Throne. The House of Maringil had power and money, enough to influence whomever they pleased. They are yet determined to claim the Sun Throne for themselves and set up a line of rule that will extend into the new Age. The House of Maringil is excellent at covering up any sort of indication that they are the prime manipulators that they are, but there is one detail that leads many people to suspect at least one member of the family of adultery - Relinda's abnormally blue eyes. Some lesser houses have even gone so far as to accuse the family of fraternizing with the Aes Sedai, but the House of Maringil has never given any sort of indication as to which rumor might be closer to the truth.

As a child, Relinda was often left alone with a nanny or another servant to watch over her. And because Relinda did not like being watched over, she often managed to illude her guardians and explore on her own. Part of Relinda's reluctance to be watched came from the constant exposure to Cairhien manipulation. From a very young age, Relinda realized that the less people know about you, the better. At the age of seven she went through a stage of extreme paranoia, taking her privacy to the extent where she went down to the kitchens to deliver her food order and insisted on standing at the elbow of the Head Chef and watching him prepare her food to make sure no poison was slipped inside and no one would discover her extreme love of spinach balls.

Relinda also enjoys riding horses, in particularly a black stallion that she has named Celebros. Relinda first happened upon Celebros at the age of 16, a few months before her mother died. Celebros was only a year old, with a fiery temper and an unwillingness to let anyone come near him, much less ride him. After a month of patience, bruises, and some hard work, Relinda was able to gain Celebros's trust and get a saddle on him. No one else has. Relinda was working with someone to train Celebros as a war horse, for reasons unknown to anyone but herself. However, Relinda's recent acceptance to the Grey Tower has put a stop to any training Celebros might have recieved.

Relinda first touched the source at her mother's funeral [Relinda has the inborn spark]. The circumstances of her mother's death were unclear. She had taken ill at a banquet at the house of another Family, and survived only a day before passing away. During the reception after the ceremony, a number of noblewomen were already attempting to trip Relinda's father into their beds, and a number of noblemen were suggesting that it was about time Relinda was settled down as well. Many of the nobles were daring to imply that the power of the House of Maringil was failing and it was time to let someone else take over. Others expressed doubt that Relinda could successfully hold the House's power. There were the usual hints at death threats of course, but when one of the noblemen had the nerve to suggest that it was he who had poisoned Relinda's mother, all the wine cups in the room exploded in a burst of Sea Folk glass and splattering drink. Larellia Valori Sedai [who was attending the reception] felt the resonance of the Source and later tested Relinda before spiriting her away to the Grey Tower. On their journey, Larellia Sedai spoke of the Blue Ajah, which might have sparked Relinda's interest.

If Relinda does become an Aes Sedai, she will have more influence in Cairhien, as well as other nations. This will increase the power of the House of Maringil, but will also bring more enemies. Rumor has it that the family has planned to raise her to the High Seat once she has completed her training at the Grey Tower.
