Poppy Dren is a Domani Yellow Oathsworn Aes Sedai of the Grey Tower.

Description

Essentially, Poppy looks like a porcelain doll. She is small, standing quite shy of five feet. Her hair is a deep red and she prides herself on the belief that it is quite beautiful. Her features are tiny, except for her eyes which are large and gray. This only serves to accentuate her doll-like appearance.

Unlike a doll, however, Poppy is far from silent. She is constantly in motion or talking or both, and has an endless supply of energy to support her dramatic tendancies. At her old home in Arad Doman it was frequently commented on that it should be impossible for something so small to be so tireless.

Poppy's bubbly and dramatic attitude usually conceals her true intellect, and in fact she can be solemn and serious. It has just never been witnessed before.

"Poppy is a bit like going over a waterfall. You have no idea what's at the bottom but you know you're already screwed."

Biography

Poppy bounced excitedly in her chair. She had never been so excited in her life. The grand adventures she was going to embark on would be unparalleled. Jain Farstrider would be put to shame.

There was a knock on the door to her sitting room and Poppy bounded up from her chair so quickly that she tripped. Not to be deterred and belaying the action rather than the flower that belayed her name, she popped back up ad rushed to the door, flinging it open and slamming it against the wall.

She put a dainty hand to her tiny mouth and gasped. "Oh, you're beautiful!" she gushed, grabbing the hand of the woman and yanking her inside. She vaguely heard someone say, "Don't touch me," but she paid it no mind. Poppy bounced up and down, her red hair swaying. She stood back a moment, large silver eyes drinking in the other woman. "Oh, your hair is so beautiful. Mine is too, isn't it? Everyone says so. My grandmother was Far Dareis Mai, can you believe it?" She stood up again, throwing her arms wide dramatically.

"She was there, in the Aiel Waste. The sun, scorching down. Her beautiful red hair nearly reached her ankles, that's where I got my red hair, and her group came upon a tall, handsome wetlander just laying there in the sand, dying." Poppy fell to the ground, her hand dramatically upon her brow. She jumped back up then, done playing the dying man.

"My grandmother took him back to her Hold and nursed him back to health. He fell in love with her and she gave up the spear for him." Poppy brought her hands together at her breast and gave a twirl. "Isn't that so romantic?" She looked up at the Aes Sedai who was merely staring at her in wonder. "Oh my, you're very tall."

The other woman finally spoke. "I'm not tall, you're short. No Maiden of the Spear would wear her hair to her ankles. That is completely impractical when fighting. In addition, any group of Aiel would have killed a wetlander on sight." Slowly, Poppy deflated. She came down from her tiptoes and her arms lowered to her sides. She considered what to do for a moment, her tiny facial features scrunched up in thought. Finally she just decided to ignore the whole thing, and her face erupted into a smile once again.

"Forgive me, Aes Sedai," she said with a flourish. "I have not even asked you about yourself." The doll-like figure beckoned to a chair.

"I prefer to stand."

Poppy was not about to be deterred again. "What shall I call you, Aes Sedai? What ajah are you? Are you Yellow? Where's your warder? Are you going to take me to the Grey Tower? Ohhh, that's shiny!" she finished, lunging toward the Aes Sedai.

The other woman put one hand up and stopped Poppy's head as she lunged. The little redhead's slippered feet continued to move, but they didn't go anywhere. Finally she realized she wasn't moving forward and stopped. She stood back up, fixing her hair. She pursed her full little lips and straightened her dress. "Well I just never..."

"Don't ever touch my things. I am Lyra Sedai of the White Ajah." Poppy's large silver eyes widened and she opened her mouth. Lyra did not give her the chance to butt in again. "I have no warder. And I would take you to the Tower, but it resides in the real world. And you, my dear, live somewhere else entirely."

Poppy didn't really know what that meant, but it didn't sound good for her grand plans. "My mother and father sent for someone because I have a Healing Talent. Did they tell you that? My brother fell out of a tree. He would have died without me!" she concluded, throwing her arms out yet again.

"You will be taken to the Tower," the Aes Sedai admitted grudgingly. "We can't have you running about with the ability to channel and no way to control it. You will be taught enough not to harm yourself or others, and then you will be turned out. We need people who have the talent and willingness and ability to stand at Tarmon Gai'don. We cannot waste time or resources on those who cannot." Lyra turned to leave. "Pack your things." She turned back around, however, at the sound of a forceful stomp. The White arched an eyebrow.

Poppy stood there, eyes narrowed and determined, the rest of her small features pointing down sharply in a full-faced frown. "Some people don't like my stories and some people say I'm stupid, but I'm not." She crossed her arms. "I'm very smart and I learn fast. Just because my stories aren't always all right doesn't mean I just make them up completely. Wanting to see the world better doesn't make me stupid. I'm smart enough to know that you are of the ajah that praises logic, and that if you don't even give me the chance to becomes Aes Sedai, then...then...you aren't smart at all!"

Poppy immediately covered her mouth with her hand, looking horrified upon realizing that she had just told the White she was stupid. But she didn't take it back.

Lyra considered the tiny figure with amusement rather than any hint of anger. "Very well, come along. Let us go speak with your parents." Poppy bounced happily down the corridor at Lyra's side.

"Thank you so much Lyra Sedai!"

"You must promise me one thing."

"Anything, Lyra Sedai," Poppy replied.

"Do not EVER consider joining the White Ajah.

"And stop touching me."
