Biography

Nerad Tendo grew up in a small village in Arad Doman.

He trained many years in the fighting arts of his fathers specializing in unarmed combat and the quarterstaff. H is trainers remarked that his fighting aptitude was higher than most.

Nerad first channeled when he was 16. His friends introduced him to the consumption of alcohol in large quantities and in a moment of extreme levity, he made a wine barrel explode. The barkeep explained it as simply a case of poor workmanship of the barrel but Nerad knew he had done something. It made him feel sick but he was in such a good mood that he didn't care.

He channeled on many more occasions, usually in the tavern while quite drunk but other times as well. While drunk he learned that he could use his power to play tricks on people. These tricks quickly became a point of speculation around the town.

The village elders didn't take long to realize that some of his tricks were impossible for a normal human to accomplish. At first they looked for accomplices, but eventually concluded that he was channeling the One power. Word about his suspected ability to channel spread among the villagers like wildfire.

That evening a mob of angry villagers entered his home and demanded that he be cast out of the village. 'A male channeler is too dangerous to keep in civilized society, especially THAT one.' Nerad was so hurt and angry by all this that he lost control of himself. He felt his anger solidify and magnify until it congealed into a ball of fire about the size of a pumpkin. In his of rage, he willed it to fly at the leader of the mob and it did, catching him in the chest knocking him back a step and setting his clothing on fire. Suddenly realizing how sick he felt, Nerad turned and vomited violently on the floor.

The mob retreated for a moment stunned at the display but then, regaining their composure when they saw him vomit, they attacked. He held them off for a few moments but was easily beaten and aprehended. He was placed in solitary confinement until the elders could decide what to do with him.

The elders sent word to King Alsalam Saeed Almadar as to what they should do with the boy.

In prison, Nerad had mixed emotions. He was sad and lonely about being in solitary but he was also intrigued at the fireball he'd created and wanted to explore his abilities further. Try as he might though, whenever he tried to re-create the feat he was completely unable. Resigning himself he sank down on his cold bed and he began to cry uncontrollably. As he cried he started to feel the same sick feeling he had had when he'd created the fireball. It took a moment or two for the feeling to pass but when it did, he realized that his bed was not cold anymore but a comfortable warm temperature.

About a week later, an Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah arrived at the small town in disguise. She learned about the boy who could channel and felt pity for him. She approached the elders and told them that a male channeler is Aes Sedai buisness and that he should be released into her custody. The elders agreed and Nerad was released.

Nerad was very aprehensive. He'd heard about the Aes Sedai and wasn't sure he would rather be in her company than in the cell but he wasn't being given a choice. He was escorted to a cart filled with provisions for a journey where another young woman waited. He recognized her immediately but wondered why she was here. There were also a number of men here on horseback. Nerad wondered if these were warriors from another village but more importantly, he wondered what in the world those cloaks were made of...

The Aes Sedai ushered the children onto the cart and then climbed aboard herself. As they headed away from the town, she told them of a special city with a large tower where they could properly learn to use their 'gifts.'
