Nani Hatherton is an Arafellin Gaidin of the Grey Tower.

Description

5 foot seven inches, wide shoulder, hourglass build, strong muscled and toned body, short brown hair, that is straight and falls just to her shoulders and frames her face in the front. Calloused hands, chipped nails, worn feet, with hard calluses. Amethyst purple eyes, full lips, and a fatless face and body. Usually dressed in her Drin uniform now, with her fan cases strapped to her thighs. Her boots go up to her knees and she wears fingerless gloves she earned as a warrior of her town when she was 18. She wears a hat to keep her hair out of her way.

Calm cool and collected. Sometimes called ice, Nani is very controlled. Her emotions flow around inside of her and she doesn't let them effect what she would do. She's rational and competent. No is a very common word used in her lectionary, because she will not promise something that she could not deliver on. Nani doesn't like commitments that will hinder her progress in life, and does her best to stay away from boys if she can help it. Her main focus is training, and becoming the best at her weapon of choice.

She's not hard to get along with, but she's difficult to learn about because she keeps most of her own life to herself, and will tell lies if she doesn't want to answer something. She'll make up stories so that she won't have to share her real stories. Once you are Nani's friend, you will never be rid of her. And her personality doesn't change besides her sarcastic humour appears, and she starts to rib at you for stupidty. Her major fault is that she is proud and she is stubborn. If you dare her to do it, she will do it to the best of her ability.

Biography

Born and raised in Cartwright, a town in Arafel, one of the Borderlands, where the women fought along side the men in the fight against the Blight. Not many towns were like this, but it set Cartwright up and beyond what was asked from the borderland towns. Not many outside the Borderlands knew about the town, and all the warriors in the town were allowed to train in what ever weapon they desrired. When Nani was 7, she found her mother's dancing fans and started to fool around with them, moving as she remembered her mother had when dancing at the Festivals. She looked awkward and shoppy but she was a natural at it. Nani's mother start to help train her, and by the age of 10, she was moving as smoothly as her mother and dancing at the festivals. then with the moves down, she started to learn how to attack and defend with the fans, working closely with the fan maker to make herself 3 pairs of fans, 6 in total, metal pieces instead of the wood, but with the silk easier to remove to be replaced. She knows how to make anything with black smithing, (in theory that is), but she is only able to make metal fans with any skill.

A group of girls that Nani grew up with managed to learn their weapons with the same proficiency as Nani and they grew close together as they trained together, becoming group 17 of the groups of fighting forces in the town. The leader of the town, called the Governer General was in charge of 'knighting' or initiating the new incoming warriors. Each group were their own theme, and their own style. Group 17 dressed all the same, with a pair of pants that appeared as a skirt with a sash to hold them up, upper body armour over top of a green tunic, and a black headdress, that sat on the crown of their head, and had two pieces that hung down on either side of their faces, and this identifies who they were. Every girl had their family colours and a different charm for each girl based on what they fought with. There was a girl with a sheather short sword, another with a staff, bow and arrows, Nani had open ans, another girl a pair of daggers, and 5 girls with Katana charms worked into the headdress. The town was assembled the day she and her group were 'knighted' and they were all granted the fingerless gloves that denoted them as warriors of the town.

The girls were all 18 at the time. And it would still be another 9 years before Nani headed for the Grey Tower, even though the White Tower was closer. She fought with her group mates for 8 of those 9 years. It was partway through the 9th year that everything fell apart. And it was not even what you are thinking. The town still stands today and functions just as well without Nani. But Nani was caught with one of her group mate's husband, and that was inexcusable in their town. Nani was not given a chance to defend herself, and without a second though, the girls in Group 17 struck Nani's name from the roster, and no longer included her in the fighting plans for the Group. Nani was torn, and yet she could not find fault with them, for it had been all her own fault. Being drunk does not excuse anything, nor does the fact that she couldn't remember a thing before she got caught, and shortly after he had given her a drink. Unless the man was visibly forcing himself on a woman, in Cartwright, the woman was at fault.

And so Nani left, not sure where she wanted to go. She heard that the White Tower was looking for Warders, but the training was ridged. All Warders must wield a sword, and must know all sorts of information, and the majority being accepted were men. Nani knew she would not be accepted there. The Black Tower was out of the question. She had gotten in trouble with men, why should she go looking for more of the same trouble? That was stupid, and Nani did her best not to commit the same mistake twice. So she started her trek for the Grey Tower, completing the journey in little less than half a year. The day of her birthday, she walked into the Tower, and requested an audience with the Gaidin Captain. Nani was dressed a Gropu 17 Warrior, headdress and all. They may have taken her name away from the roster, but she was still a proud and stubborn individual, who would not let her pride be taken from her.
