Description

A tall girl, maybe 5'9" walks into the room. Your eyes follow her, she walks with the gait of someone who is wounded and proud. Her shoulders are back and her back is straight, but her expression is stony and guarded. You can't help but wonder about her. That long black hair braided down her back and those slanted brown eyes. There are stories in those eyes, you can see that. She sits down in front of you, from the rolled up sleeves of her shift, you can see the coil of scars encircling her arm from her wrist to her elbow. You can see the marks over her hands and the scar from her cheek bone to her chin. You can see that she has had a hard life, but she doesn't want it to show. Abruptly, she begins her story...

Biography

"I don't know where I was born. I don't even know who my parents were. I am not even sure of their names, all I know is that they are both dead. I was told that my mother died in childbirth with me, and that no one knows how my ather died. Some have said it was a broken heart. If anyone knows the truth, they aren't telling me.

"I was sent to several different places as a baby and young child, I only remember a few. I ended up on a farm in Murandy, and they tell me that I grew up the epitome of farmgirl ore. I was brought to this far at about six years old. I suppose that I was adopted officially by theese people, although you never would have guessed it. They kept me with the hired help and didn't pay me a thing.

"As the epitome of farm girl lore, so thay say, I grew up tall, fleshy and strong as an ox. Admittedly, not how any girl wants to hear themselves described, but this was me. I could lift anything the boys could, I could run as fast and hit as hard. I guess I was a tomboy, as they saying goes. I had to be- I was the only female in the hired help. The farmers had all daughters, five of them, and each and every one ignored me.

"I have always had this sneaking suspicion that I looked like my father, I don't know why, it's just how I've been. With the appearance I have, they say that I look exotic, like a parrot in the cage... and they say it real snotty, too: "Oh, she's so... eh, exotic." I hate them. All of them. The hired boys weren't so bad... until I turned fifteen, then they all got way too fresh, if you get my drift. I ran away at sixteen, after one particularly harsh night... which I won't talk about, even now. Let's just say that I have the scars.

"Speaking of scars, as you can see, I have alot of them. The ones on my hands are also like the ones on my feet, from working the fields. My arms are from wires that... had been wrapped around there. Damn things bled for hours... I have some on my back from the rocks, and the one on my face is from a hand the size of a shovel.

"I reached this height early, and gained to the weight I am from the building of muscle. It just happened that way, so I guess it was inherited. I work hard to keep it that way. I learned to fight well during the years that I wasn't looked at like I was a girl. And in the years that I have been, I've gotten better. Fearing for your life... among other things, will do that for you.

"When I was eighteen, I had a complete nervous breakdown in the common room of an inn. The guards came and took me, I was kept with brutes for a night and released in the morning. That night was one of the hardest of my life, I didn't sleep at all. I swear now that no mean will ever touch me without my permission again. I'll cut them to pieces first... or I'll cut myself.

"I've only had a few friends in the three years since I ran away, they all told me taht I was the most sarcastic and cynical person they've ever met. Maybe I'm that bad... or that good, depends on your point of view. They also say that I'm smart, I doubt it though- if I had been that smart, I wouldve seen things coming. I've only recently discovered that talent. I haven't seen either of my friends since the incident in Andor. I hope they're alive.

"Now that I have come to this place, I hope to start a new life. I don't like authority, but I listen when I have to, and if that authority manages to gain my respect, I'll follow them into the grave. On the streets, you learn survival, but you also learn loyalty. Both can keep you alive." And with that, she fell silent, climbing to her feet and walking out.
