Lady Leala Gymorraine is an Andoran White Aes Sedai of the Grey Tower, and the High Seat of House Gymorraine.

Description

Leala may seem like the typical member of the White Ajah at first, cold and indifferent. However, she maintains this demeanor to keep an impartial view on the world around her, so as to get to the truth of what she sees before her. She accepts no nonsense in her role as a teacher and a mentor, and certainly will tolerate none in her role as Head of House Gymorraine. She has become less quiet from her days as a novice, but she can still seem withdrawn when she is studying something. While she shows this side to most people, she does have a softer side when it comes to her friends. She is extremely loyal to those few who have earned her trust. She defends them and supports them, ignoring any consequences that would affect her. To these friends, she entrusts her soul, the feelings she doesn't show anyone else.

Leala is a little taller than the average woman, but not by much. She is slender, but does not work to showcase the curves that she does have. She has a very pale complexion, and doesn't have any freckles, as she doesn't get out in the sun very much. Leala has pale golden hair that is very close to silver. Her hair is long and is styled into controlled curls. Her eyes are gray, and sometimes glint with a slightly metallic sheen in the right light. She tends to dress in the color of her Ajah, although sometimes she wears dresses with a splash of her favorite color, lavender, or dresses with accents of the colors of her house: gray, deep blue, and gold.

Biography

Leala was born the first daughter of Amaranth and Elvan Gymorraine. Her mother was strict and began teaching Leala how to take over as House Head from a very young age. It turns out that strict was just how the girl thought, and she posed very little trouble for her mother. While her mother was her mentor and nothing more, her father was her friend. He would talk to her about silly things and try to make her laugh. It took her a while, but she did accept his friendship, and before long, the two were very close. Leala kept any silliness away from her mother's view, and spent most of her free time studying when she wasn't speaking with her father. By the time she was eight, her little sister Leanna was born. Leanna was a silly frivolous little girl and knew she'd never take over in the long run.

When Leala was fifteen, and by then very well educated, an Aes Sedai of the Gray Ajah passed by her home to visit with her parents. Her mother had been considering taking on an advisor. However, all talk of advisors stopped when the Aes Sedai took Leala to the side and asked if she'd ever been tested to see if she could wield the One Power. Everyone stopped and waited. Of course, Leala told her that she never had. The Aes Sedai took out a simple green gem and asked Leala to concentrate on the stone, to try and make it light up. At first, she thought that silly. But, Aes Sedai did such strange things with the One Power. She concentrated for what seemed like ages, when finally, she saw the small flash of light in the stone. After the test, Leala was delighted to learn that the Aes Sedai had come from the Grey Tower, rather than the White. She had always thought the Grey Tower more progressive, more intriguing, something more to study.

Ever since the Ajahs were fully explained to her, Leala knew that she was destined to join the ranks of the White Ajah some day. Even as a novice, she applied logic to all her actions and tried to hone her skills of observation. She kept mostly to herself, since most novices and soldiers thought her boring, but she was aiming for the shawl. The thoughts of those in her current station did not bother her. She made sure to keep her behavior careful, and made it a point to abide by the rules. Logically, they were there for a reason. There were a couple of times when the rules and expectations were ignored, but she was careful even then. She was keen in her studies and was given the test of the Three Arches after four years as a novice.

During her stint as an Accepted, Leala gained a mentor in an Asha'man from Altara named Aelyn. He had been impressed by her keen use of logic while she was a novice and seemed delighted when she continued to keep the White Ajah in her sights. She learned that she had the talent to walk in Tel'aran'rhiod during her time in the banded dress as well. She increased her studies and even took on teaching classes. She knew, however, that she needed to concentrate on using the One Power, or she would stay Accepted. After six years, she was called to take the test of the Great Stair. She chose the White Ajah without hesitation and began her life as an Aes Sedai.

She spent the majority of her time in the Tower, learning the secret weaves of her Ajah and the ceremonies as well. When she was fully initiated, she paid her family a visit. Her father had passed away while she was in the Grey Tower. He had left his signet ring to her. Her younger sister had married and had given birth to a little girl that she had named for Leala. Her mother vaguely alluded to giving her the title of Head of House Gymorraine upon her death, and Leala left for the Tower.

Her mother took ill perhaps five years after the visit, and Leala was named the Head of House Gymorraine not long after the funeral. She named a small team of trusted keepers to watch and supervise her lands while away. Shortly after returning to the Grey Tower, she was summoned to appear before the First Reasoner, her old mentor, Aelyn. He named her Sitter, then stepped down from the role of representing the Ajah in the Hall while maintaining his title as First Reasoner. It did not take long after that that the Ajah named her First Reasoner, after seeing how she handled herself and the Ajah's agenda in the Hall of Sitters.

Leala balances her life in the Grey Tower and her lands in Andor quite well. She keeps in regular contact with her keepers and visits multiple times a year. She is also careful to keep up with the members of her Ajah and teach the occasional class, to make sure that the White Ajah remains visible within the Grey Tower.
