Description

A tall lanky young women. She is exceedingly beautiful with long, gently curling golden hair which falls halfway down her back. Her eyes are the colour of the sea on a cool winter morning although they are anything but cool. Her facial features are neatly perfectly proportioned. They are soft and gentle with flowing lines in the correct places. She has plush, red lips and a button nose.

After that things don't go quite as well for as far a looks are concerned. While her body could hardly be described as flat or thin it could neither be described as curvaceous. While there is a certain grace to her it is more the dangerous grace of a soldier than the flowing grace of a lady.

A rash and adventurous young women she is often getting herself into trouble. She is quick to anger but quicker still to laugh and is often making jokes or playing pranks. She is loud and vibrant, full of life and joy. She has a mercurial nature and flicks between her laughing, joyous self and her fiery temper.

She is bright but her intelligence is more often used to make mischief than anything else. She has a strong sense of right and wrong and so will accept the outcome of her pranks when they catch up with her. It is also what stops her from going to far which her pranks. It is this moral strength that often leads to her temper being roused as she cannot stand to see injustice done to any. She does her best to act with honour when it is required but often treads a line with her more fun loving, less serious side. She has a stubborn streak is often hard to move once she has made up her mind, at least until she calms downs.

It is possible to call her brave or courageous although this may stream from the fact that she doesn't take enough time to think of the dangers in something before she rushes into it. She is loyal to her friends and will do anything in her power to ensure they are both safe and happy. Her view of the world is slightly clouded by the fact that she has, for the most part, led an idyllic lifestyle so far. She is not naive enough to believe that the world is a perfect place but she is still far from understanding just how brutal it is.

She is a surprisingly innocent person when it comes to men with almost no clue how to act. Despite this she likes to curse although in most cases she doesn’t know the means of the words. She loves animals, horses in particular and is a keen rider.

She is absolutely terrified of spiders as she find their eight legs and eyes to be unnatural. There are the only thing known to be able to make her squeal and run away.

Biography

She was born and raised as the third child of a powerful noble house in Arad Doman. Her mother was one of the Merchant Council. As the third child she was never very important except for a possible marriage in the future. This help her to run free and wild and she spent much of her earlier childhood pranking the servants or on occasion her old sisters when she was not in lessons. For the most part she enjoyed her earlier life as she could be free. The only issues she had were the expectations forced upon her my her mother who wanted her to become a suitable high lady so that she could be married of when the time came. While not technically neglected, servants saw to her ever need, her mother and her weren't close. The two often fought, particularly over the freedom which Layla enjoyed.

As part of her upbringing she was instructed in many different areas and did well, if not exceptionally, in most. The exception was with men at which she proved to be hopeless as she would always end up making some rude joke or playing some prank on the man in question. She also couldn’t see the different between men and women so to speak and so treated all the same. Her attitude to lessons was disinterested at best. She would go throw the motions without really applying herself. She had learned young that she wouldn’t be able to grt out of lessons regardless of how much they bored and frustrated her. Occasionally a subject caught her attention and she would focus on it briefly but she always lost interest in it quickly.

It was this freedom which lead her to spending much of her time with the house guards, they more exciting and interesting than the other manor servants. They were also more understanding of her pranks and jokes and it was from them that she learn many of her curses.

Another of the habits which they installed into her was that of sword play. From a young age she was fascinated with fighting and duelling and after years and years of pestering the guards she finally managed to convince them to teach her the sword. This occurred when she was slightly younger, at thirteen. When her mother found out she was furious at both the guards and Layla and forbade them from teaching her any more. In response Layla refused to leave her room for a week and only drank enough water during that time to keep herself alive. It was one of the few times that she kept her mind set upon something. After that week her mother relented seeing that Layla was serious but she did enforce the rule that it be done in secret as it wouldn’t do for a high noble familiarity to be seen to be teaching their daughter sword play. Soon the sword became almost as much a passion for her as horse riding. For her it symbolised a victory against her mother and a streak of freedom which couldn’t be taken from her.

This continued until she was nineteen at which point she decided that she would run away in order to have an adventure. It was a decision she made in her typical impulsive style and so she left at the crack of dawn with very little planning or preparation. She made it only a couple of miles outside the city before some of her mother's guards who had been sent to find her caught up with her. Her absence had been noticed almost immediately by her maid who came to wake her up for her morning breakfast. When they discovered her favourite horse was missing along side some food from the kitchens they came to the conclusion that she had gone out riding. Her mother send a detachment of house guard who dragged her back and brought her back.

When brought before her mother she confessed to try to run away to join the Grey Tower and learn to channel. Much to her surprise her mother took her to a visiting Aes Sedai who was in the city. Her mother had decided that if it were possible to have her taught to channel then that would be as good a use for her as any as it was proving unlikely that she would be useful for almost anything else bar playing tricks on people and even marriage was looking unlikely based on her hopelessness with men. It was found that she could channel and see was sent through a gateway to start her training after being given an hour to say her goodbyes and fetch anything which she felt she had to take with her.
