Kanamai Hukini is a Malkieri Green Oathsworn Asha'man of the Grey Tower.

Kanamai is tall and slim and has been known to successfully pose as a man (male name - Kentam). She is adventurous and enjoys handling weapons. She has dark hair, olive skin, a rather hooked nose and green eyes. She is a mixture of her Malkieri father and Saldaean mother for looks. Kanamai has a fierce temper but it rarely shows. She is more likely to quietly seethe at annoyances. You can tell if she is angry because her lip will curl up slightly on the left side and her eyes seem to darken and shine. She is an excellent horsewoman and trains the fiercer ones to respond without the use of a saddle or bridle. Kanamai will take the lead in an emergency and become very directive. However, she is happy to follow if the one appointed to lead is capable. She has many dreams she hopes to achieve and loves to delegate jobs to others who are persuaded to help her achieve them. She thinks she could even lead a nation or an army successfully but doesn't really think this will ever happen.

Kanamai has achieved the ageless look of the Aes Sedai but retains the impulsivity of youth. Her warders are frequently exasperated by her tendancy to almost cause life threatening situations through her propensity to risk taking.

It is quietly known to all that the Green is head of the Malkieri line, although she hides the fact and makes little of it. When the title was recently under false claim, however, Kanamai dropped all other responsibilities and disappeared from the Tower to deal with it.

Kanamai hates paperwork and makes a point of befriending Accepteds. especially of the Brown, who seem to delight in reading and sorting annoying mail for her. She is rarely seen without her ancient power wrought family heirlom, a two edged straight sword, which she is more likely to use in skilled displays of swordsmanship than use to channel the power. She dresses in breeches except on formal occasions, and is an expert horsewoman, having trained warhorses and ridden to battle in the Saldaean Army before making her way to the Tower.

I am Malkieri, not Saldaean. Malkier, lost land of my heritage, how I grieve for you. Land of lakes and towers, of harsh majestic beauty painted in my memory by my mother's stories, will you never be whole? Will I never belong? That's how I feel - homeless.

I am old for a novice, well into my middle years, though none will believe my age. When the young Amyrlin announced that all may come, I decided to make a new home in the Tower. After all, all that I loved is lost. It is time to start a new life. Let me tell you my story.

My name is Kanamai Hukini, though some know me only as Kenta Hukini because I have posed as a man. I am the youngest of my family and the last. My father was a master craftsman, making swords for the nobles and important people in the King's army. His father had passed this craft down as it had, in turn been passed to him. My ancestors have been sword crafters for thousands of years as far as I can make out. I have an ancient family heirloom from sometime in our distant past - a magnificent sword. Someone, back there in my family line, was a male Aes Sedai. He was a sword maker too but he made them with the power.

The sword called to me as a child and no one thought it wrong for a girl to wield it. We all needed to protect ourselves. My father and brothers died in the Blight before I was twelve. It had already swallowed Malkier by then and we had moved to Saldaea. Yes, Malkier was gone, swallowed by filth and corruption, eaten by the shadow's creeping death.

I remember the first time I channelled the power. At fifteen years of age, I woke in the night to the sickening snarl of the trolloc that took my mother's life. I don't know how it happened but a ball of fire flew from my hands and the trolloc screamed as it exploded in flames. I was sick after that, for days. I'm not sure if it was the shock of my mother's death or something to do with the power. They thought I was going to die but I survived. I can't do it whenever I want to. I don't really know how. I takes a trolloc for the fire to come from my hands.

With a love of adventure and nothing better to do, I ran off to join the army a few years after my mother's death. I was slim and flat chested. With my dark hair in a boy's style and a hadori around my temples, who would know I was a woman. Well, that didn't work. I was used to being able to pose as a man whenever it suited me but it only took about three days for the young officer's suspicions to be confirmed. He kept me around, not as a soldier, as a stable girl. I had a real way with horses. Within a year I became his wife.

He died in battle - took a myrddraal's death blade through the ribs at Tarwin's Gap and was committed to the last embrace of the mother a week before the word reached me that he was gone.

We had no children and I never married again in all the years between his death and now. I am the last of my line and I look for a new family, a new home, a new battle, a new hope in the Tower. They would not let me use my sword at Tarwin's Gap but perhaps I can learn how to use my fire and be there at the last battle. I stand ready for Tarmon Gaidon.
