Kaci Taravin is an Andoran Drin of the Grey Tower.

Description

Keiran and Kaci are twins born only seconds apart. They have been steadfastly inseparable since birth. Kaci developed into a stunningly beautiful young woman. Her golden hair silky smooth, with a radiant sheen that never fails to catch the eye. Keiran, on the other hand, is best described as boyishly handsome. Unable to grow hair anywhere but the top of his head, even after hitting puberty many years past. His hair a naturally wild cacophony of blondes and lighter browns falling in perfectly curved strands in a random and disarrayed pattern, just barely hitting his eyebrows and covering the tips of his ears. The pair share a number of features such as their perfectly unblemished skin lent a healthy amber color from excessive time spent outdoors, their penetrating deep sky blue eyes with the same cloudy shimmering effect when looked upon for too long, and the smooth songlike quality of their voice.

Keiran is thin, not muscular, but fit from all of the exercise he gets chasing Kaci around. He is slightly shorter than Kaci, by maybe an inch. Side by side, no one can mistake Keiran and Kaci as anything other than siblings, especially with Keiran’s stark lack of any trace of facial hair. Keiran’s expression rarely ever betrays his emotions. At nearly all times he is calm and collected, never lacking self-restraint. Kaci on the other hand is immensely quick to anger. While she can play the political game with the rest of them, any displeasure she feels is readily apparent in her expression. Of course, Keiran is immune to the effects of her temper as the two have never had a conflict with one another. Keiran is always the one who must talk Kaci out of any irrational acts of wrath.

Many people would describe Keiran as aloof. Kaci knows that they could not be any more wrong. He loves to observe and listen, taking in all the details that many people would ordinarily miss. For whatever reason, Keiran is fascinated by the machinations of the minds and mannerisms of others. Because of this, it is almost impossible to lie to the twins. Keiran holds nothing back from Kaci, in all things. He can often be seen whispering to her, accompanied by a knowing smile, grin, or laughter. At times, Kaci will pass on the information Keiran gives her to her grandmother, to be used in whatever official capacity she deems fit. All for the benefit and protection of the realm, of course.

Kaci is the wild Taravin. She likes staying up late so she can sleep until the sun is almost at its highest point in the sky. She prefers to break the day with her ‘morning’ meal taken under the sun outside the city. Keiran would observe the comers and goers, spinning mesmerizing tales about their business in the city aloud to Kaci. Every afternoon Kaci spent an hour, at least, training with the Queen’s Guard. Keiran would critique their technique, oftentimes using what he saw to help devise a new strategy of attack or defense. In late afternoon, they would relax with a different book each day. Kaci would read aloud, many times acting out the scenes in jest, using her many vocal talents to bring the characters to life. All the while Keiran would sketch the visions in his mind’s eye with charcoal on oversized parchment. Each evening they would sit near a roaring fire in the Great Hall, Keiran strumming a fanciful tune on his lute while Kaci enthralled the servants, family, and occasional guest with her soothing voice.

Keiran is not the most confident Taravin. He sees his other siblings as much more impressive than himself, despite their constant assurances otherwise. He isn’t skilled in combat like Kaci. In fact, he would rather run from a fight than learn to defend himself. Keiran is loyal to a fault, mostly to Kaci. He is distrustful of everyone. The lies and deceit that run rampant in Andoran nobility have soured his impression of the rest of the world. Kaci is always trying to find ways for them to make the world a better place. They help to feed the homeless children in Caemlyn and pay a moderate sum to anyone willing to take a child into their home. Kaci also enjoys spending time with the soldiers who returned to their homes wounded and relieved of duty. Mostly, she relished in the stories of battle they told.

Kaci is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful young Ladies at court. Justine loves to bring her to matters of state so all of the ravenous Lords from various noble houses might be distracted. Keiran always takes pleasure in pointing out the ones unable to remove their eyes from her when she is present. In an odd way, Kaci has grown to like the attention. Though she almost never gives any of the men the time of day. Her taste in styles and colors is often the talk of the other Ladies, so Kaci spends a great deal of time, and coin, to make sure to impress them. Keiran is usually dragged in to sketch her ideas as she has them, often in the dead of the night.

At 19, Keiran and Kaci have begun to realize that their lives are boring. Maybe even meaningless.

Biography

Having grown up in a powerful and wealthy noble House, Keiran and Kaci didn't live particularly exciting lives. While the older children were being groomed for their positions of power and responsibility, the twins were left to their own devices. They split their time almost evenly between the hustle and bustle of Caemlyn and the quiet serenity of their country estate.

As children, Keiran and Kaci passed their time sneaking around in mischief. Kaci, came up with the ideas and recruited Keiran to make the plans. In the countryside they could often be found in mock battles. Kaci on the battlefield pretending to be one of the great heroes of old. Keiran on a perch overlooking the battle, narrating the action and shouting tactical advice to Kaci.

As early teenagers, the twins focused their energies on their creative skills. Kaci practiced writing herself as a hero fighting in the War of Power. Keiran illustrated her writing with his charcoal drawings. One day, at a quaint little shop in the Palace District, Keiran picked up a meticulously crafted lute. Made from a single block of mahogany wood, lines carved into the wood in wild patterns and then filled with silver scrollwork. After plucking just one of the strings he immediately fell in love with the instrument. From that point on, he spent hours per day learning to play. Even seeking the tutorship of one of the Bards in the Royal Court.

At this point, Kaci also managed to convince a Captain of the Taravin Guard to begin giving her lessons in the use of the bow and the blade. She proved herself to be a quick study, eager to learn. Fascinated and proud, Keiran watched Kaci's progress in earnest. He poured through texts to find new strategies for her to try. Early in Kaci's training, a fight ensued with their grandmother Justine. She insisted that Kaci's station was above that of a soldier, and her time would be better suited in court. A compromise was reached, where Kaci agreed to spend time with Justine in the Royal Court. Of course, this meant that Keiran would be spending time in Court as well.

At sixteen, the twins found a new interest in helping the orphaned children of Caemlyn. After witnessing firsthand a child being exploited by a crooked individual, Kaci and Keiran were impassioned to affect change. With Keiran's brains, Kaci's temper, and Taravin money they opened a series of shelters and funded a division of Taravin Guards with the mission of freeing orphans enthralled by criminals.

Several years down the road, a small contingent of Aes Sedai, Asha'man, and their Warders were offered room and board in the Taravin Estate while on Grey Tower business in Caemlyn. During their stay, one of the Asha'man informed Justine that Keiran was born with the spark and would be leaving with them when they departed. Of course, Kaci demanded to go with him. After a heated battle of words, with Keiran remaining in stunned silence, Kaci ended the debate over their future. Keiran would accompany the Tower delegation back to the Grey Tower for proper training. Kaci would bring a squadron of Taravin Freedom Guard, the name given to the Guards who ferret out criminals exploiting orphans, to establish a foothold for orphan justice in western Andor. Just so, now their real story begins!

Lineage

The twins are the children of Valerie and Kristof Taravin. Which also makes them the grandchildren of Justine Taravin, next in line for the Lion Throne. In fact, Justine turned down the Lion Throne twice, unwavering in her loyalty to House Trakand. House Taravin is the second most powerful of the nineteen great houses of Andor. Keiran and Kaci have 8 older siblings, leaving them with a certain lack of responsibilities throughout their lives so far. Being so far down the line means neither of them ever has to worry about the pressure of leading a House, or worse, a Nation.
