Janwill Aerithian is an Aiel Ji'val of the Grey Tower.

Description

He is about 6' in height, with copper-yellow hair that is close cut and mildly unkempt. He dresses in the standard robes of his people, as often as he can, and has a red kerchief tied around his left wrist. His hands are always in motion, whether being used expressively while talking or just fiddling for something to do when he listens. His standard facial expression is one of stone, hardened by a life in the sun, but is easily cracked by a wide smile when something amuses him.

Biography

anwill had dreamed of this day, in a most literal sense. Entering the Archway never came without its price, and to save lives a life must be given. He prepared his small bundle of things and tied them to his spear. Standing, he went out to meet the dawn. No one would be out this morning, he knew, but still he wished he could say farewell. Walking down to the small well he took a long look at what had been his home.

This is what I agreed to, he thought. But why does it have to be so hard? Was it so wrong to want to save my family? NO! I can't think like this, or I'll never make it. That was the bargain, my life for theirs. He only remembered part of that day, most of it lost in madness and despair, nonetheless what memories he had flashed through his mind...

"Why have you come?" said the voices. "What would you ask of us?"

"My family is dying of a wasting fever, I ask that you help them." he pleaded.

"And if we do, what will you give us? What can you give that is equal to that?"

"Anything, everything, whatever you ask, just please help them!!" He turned aimlessly trying to address the voices.

"Anything boy?! What if we asked you to kill your hold to save your family?" the voices cried angrily. "We know you would not do that. So do not offer what you cannot give."

"Fine! If you know I will not why ask?!" He fell, starting to sob. "I will give whatever is in my power, if you ask it. Please, I beg of you, save them!"

"Very well, boy, at the cost of your life shall your family be saved!" intoned the voices. Slowly Janwill got to his feet and reached for his discarded spear. As his hand neared it he found it tossed away by an unseen hand.

"Why do you toy with me?!" He shouted in a blind fury. "You ask my life but prevent me from giving it, how then shall I save my family, or is this another false hope?! Shall I throw myself into some pit?! Why?!"

"We did not tell you to die, boy." said the voices in a much softer tone. "We asked you to give your life. In one years time you will leave your home and family and all that you know. You shall travel far and give your life. Here." And a window opened in the air showing a large grey tower. "Travel here and find your fate. We shall save your family."

A year seemed enough time then, he thought bitterly, But now I don't know if I shall see this again. My family did survive, if only just. Kirin, his sister had only just awoken from the fevered dreams last month. And the Wise Ones want her now too, but she isn't strong enough yet, he thought. Well this is the least I can do. He walked to her door and quietly placed a few of his childhood treasures there, a broken rock with small crystals inside, a stone carved by the wind so that now it resembled a face, and a small throwing dagger.

"These are for you," he whispered "so please think of me fondly."

Then he ran, off through the desert to find this Grey Tower where he must give his life.
