Indrettadora Asaiim is a Domani / Cairhienin Novice of the Grey Tower.
Description
In appearance and demeanour, Indrettadora could be called both the best and the worst of what Arad Doman and Cairhien have to offer in a young woman. She has coppery skin and dark hair and eyes, and her tall, slender build has always set her apart from her doll-like Cairhienin counterparts. Although at fifteen years of age, she holds more than a passing resemblance to a leggy young fawn, she shows clear signs that she will one day be a classic Domani beauty. This is not a matter of luck - Indrettadora values her appearance above all other things and spends an inordinate amount of time styling her hair and applying powders to her face. It is no accident that her dresses always match the latest trend, and it is lucky for her that her family has deep coffers.
As for her personality, it is what you might expect of a wealthy debutante. She has always been vain and self-centred, but since entering society she has also become arrogant and judgemental. She has the knack of quickly becoming the centre of attention and surrounding herself with obedient lackeys. One of her favourite pass-times involves watching crowds of people and making snide comments to her hangers-on from behind her fan.
She has a firmly rooted sense of social propriety and finds casual behaviour distasteful. She also has a great fear of decay, especially moulds and fungi. She can faint on command, and often does when a situation does not appear to be going her way.
Indrettadora is not very clever, in the way that a scholar is clever. However, she has a certain animal cunning that has always served her well. She has a knack for seeing to the heart of tangled social knots.
Biography
No country falls to invasion overnight, not even when the army is an Ever Victorious one. In the days leading up to the Seanchan capture of Arad Doman, the Asaiim family dreamed up numerous nightmare scenarios of what changes their prospective conquerors might bring. Would the Seanchan be cruel overlords? Would they seize Domani wealth and enslave Domani citizens? It seemed certain that at the very least they would replace the nobility and royalty with their own High and Low Blood.
They did not wait to find out which would be the case, but rather fled the country, taking what of their wealth they could make portable and leaving the rest to their tenants. Indreassca Asaiim, the family matriarch, had made the fortuitous decision some years earlier to marry a man from Cairhien, a nobleman of fair standing, in fact. Given that they brought a great deal of money with them, the Asaiims were welcomed with open arms by their in-laws.
Thus it was that Indrettadora was born - a Domani girl in Cairhien. Her father, though not Domani by birth, was happy to take on the traditional role of a Domani husband - mostly sitting quietly while his wife and sisters-in-law handled affairs. This taught Indrettadora an important lesson early in life - men could be amusing, and men could be useful at times, but power and money were best kept in a woman's pocket.
Her mother and aunts began teaching her the ways of bartering, trading, and the luring of men as soon as they determined that she was old enough to grasp such things. Indrettadora armed herself with a keen knowledge of fashion and the art of cosmetics, and thought that, along with her wealth and noble background, would assure her a position of power in the world.
Unfortunately, the rest of the world does not function as Arad Doman does. A woman in Cairhien does not hold nearly as much influence as does her Domani sister. It was while observing visiting Aes Sedai at the Sun Palace and the way all others deferred to them that Indrettadora determined what she wished to do with her life, and set off for the Grey Tower.
