Masteries Overview - Mastery Descriptions - Mastery Form

Masteries

Some characters are good at some things, and some are great. Then there are those skills that are exceptional in some way, either because it's something rare and special or because it takes a lot of time and effort to be truly exceptional at it; to have mastered it.

These things – special traits and skills – are what the Mastery System is designed to exemplify. Some require either a very special turn of the Wheel (such as Berserker or Strong Will), while others require your characters to learn things that make them grow and achieve greatness in their desired fields (such as Master Diplomat or Field Marshall ), or to master a skill (such as the handling of a warhorse). Some fall somewhere in between, but all are things that stand out.

The list is not exhaustive and additional Masteries may be added in the future. This list is also not comprehensive, in that your character can have skills they are good at or even great at but are not on this list. This list is just for those perks that are exceptional and that you want to work your character up to mastering.

Please remember that these are ideas for roleplaying and storytelling and are not meant to create all-powered characters. Someone else may still know more than a person with scholar-related Masteries, and even someone with weapon/battle-related Masteries may still be bested by a better warrior.

Earning a Mastery

In order to obtain a Mastery, a character must complete any two of the following:

  • A fanfic (at least 1,000 words)
  • A roleplaying thread (minimum of five (5) posts, totally at least 1,000 words)
  • A class

Requirements can be repeated, such as two fanfics or two threads to gain a Mastery.

Masteries are approved by the appropriate member of the Triumvirate. (Note: a member of the Triumvirate cannot approve themselves; a different Triumvirate must approve the Mastery request).

Mastery Limits by Rank

  • Rank One: Two (2).
  • Rank Two: Three (3).
  • Rank Three and above: No limit, but the appropriate member of the Triumvirate will consider current Masteries against future requests.
