Amora en'Damier walked through the halls of the White Tower observing the Aes Sedai and Accepted who passed her by without a glance. No one paid much attention to a novice, let alone a new novice. She had only been in the Tower for less than a week, and wasn't even signed up for any classes. However she did have her eye on a few. She walked slowly for a novice, perhaps one of the few without a chore of class to attend yet.

The hallway stretched on before her with an arched ceiling of white marble. To her left she passed the doors of warders-in-training, to her right the tall columns lined a balcony over the practice yard. Leaning over the balcony was her only friend, another novice named Jel'viendha (a distant cousin of Aviendha). They had met on the way to the Tower when Jel'viendha decided to join Amora in following Sarine Sedai to the White Tower. Jel'viendha looked odd wearing white. Amora looked over the balcony to where Jel'viendha was looking.

"I see you Jel'viendha" Amora said with a smile. "What are you looking at?"

Jel'viendha jumped, Aiel never jumped, and gave Amora a glare that to anyone else would have seemed like a cat ready to claw another. "I see you Amora en'Damier. I am watching the Katanas train. They are not bad with those . . .swords . . ." She looked as if she had tasted something foul. "I am looking for one to bond with once I become Aes Sedai Amora en'Damier. Have you chosen one?"

Amora couldn't believe it. "You're already thinking about bonding? We only got here days ago. We aren't even Accepted!"

"It is never too early to start looking. Once you do become Aes Sedai, the one you want may already be taken. I am thinking of that one." She pointed to a tall Aiel Katana. "Don't look at me like that! It's not like I'm making a bridal wreath!"

Amora looked back at the yard. One older Warder was criticizing the younger Katanas on their forms. He was most likely the teacher. One of the younger warders-in-training was fighting an older one with a practice sword. The younger was defending himself with his quick reflexes. The older made a fatal mistake and left an opening, the younger touched the older in the chest with his practice sword, signifying that he had won. The older patted the younger on the back and said "good match." She looked back at Jel'viendha and pointed, "what do you think of that one?".

"He could have made the older one gai'shain! He's so quick!! You've got yourself a Warder! I'm going to go tell mine that the decision has been made."

"Wait a minute Jel'viendha!" Amora shouted after the former Maiden of the Spear. "He's not my Warder yet, I haven't even asked him."

"Then ask him!" Jel'viendha shouted as she ran down the hallway.

Amora shook her head. "Aiel."

Later that day, Amora unexpectedly ran into the young Katana from the Practice Yard. She told him that she had seen him practice and admired how quick his reflexes were.
