In the frosty air of the starlit field
A mare gave birth
And her colt was worth
Seven pieces of gold
The mare stood up and claimed his scent
Nickering, whickering
Soft tongue flickering
Over the one she foaled

For the stable girl close by their side
Sword in hand
In that wild land
A horse was born to war
A soldier's mount for the battle groomed
Training him, reining him
Stardust naming him
Marking him with her brand

He was black as the night of a Winter storm
His socks were white
And his star was bright
Growing in strength and form
Halter to bridle, saddle to rider
Wintertime, Summertime
Once and another time
Two years since he was born

A thousand horses, a thousand men
With sword and lance
They would take the chance
Of their lives in the Shadow's gloom
The Army marched to the battle front
Heaving, breathing
Loved ones leaving
Cheering them to their doom

The Captain brave and his soldier wife
As they rode to war
With the love they bore
For their bond and their lives and the Light
He raised his sword and at his word
Fight scent, Blight bent
On by the Light sent
Into the gathering night

Dawn broke red by the dagger cliffs
As row on row
And blow by blow
Her sword bought life through death
A horse and his friend in battle teamed
Killing them, spilling them
Swift blade stilling them
Slashing the Shadow's breath

As the weary war wound to an end
Jesam and bride
Lay side by side
Aching, quiet and strained
Dreaming of days in pleasant peace
Where are they? Near are they?
Days to bear away
Memories of lives more pained

The day dawned clear but her mind was blurred
Through fever and fears
With headaches and tears
He rode to the Gap alone
Though e'er at his side, he made her stay
Lying there, crying there
Missing him, sighing there
Shivering, chilled to the bone

Now a week gone by and a soldier rode
To bring her word
For she'd not yet heard
A Myrddraal had taken his life
To the last embrace of the mother gone
Here no more, near no more
Comfort and cheer no more
Kana was nobody's wife

The news of his death was a blade through her heart
As cold as steel
And just as real
As the one she wore by her side
Time stood still and day was night
Tearing her, spearing her
Loudly declaring her
No longer Jesam's bride

A dark year passed and she made her choice
It was time to leave
And to no longer grieve
As she left the Army for good
Saldaea awaits with her family estate
Claiming it, taming it
Staffing and naming it
Making it all as she would

With a horse and a sword and a life restored
Visiting friends
And tying up ends
In Kandor she ended her strife
Where to go, how to know
Making a vow to show
Death to the Shadow, her life

In the early morn of a Summer's day
A dream was birthed
And a life unearthed
The Tower would claim her for years
It was time to raise the Spark inborn
Minding light, finding light
Saidar's blinding light
Novice white she would wear

With a battle horse and a Tairen mare
She tested true
And her life was new
Assigned to the Serpent Hall
And Stardust stayed for the battle's rest
Eating there, sleeping there
Long days keeping there
Resting himself in a stall

Rest well, my horse for the day will come
Tarmon Gaidon
I shall ride him
Into the very last war
Janis will ride there at our side
Flashing swords, clashing swords
On we will smash towards
Breaking the world once more

And Malkier shall rise from the Shadows depths
A land reborn
In the Dragon's dawn
And the Golden Crane shall fly
We will raise the towers and cleanse the lakes
Shadowspawn, lines are drawn
Malkier's fresh new morn
Rising before our eyes
