First Arch

Serrah stepped through the arch. The light enveloped her and Aleatha's last words rang through her mind, "The way back comes but oncce. Be steadfast,"

Serrah looked around groggily as the light dimmed and she gave a start. 'This is home,' she thought, 'What am I doing here?'

She heard giggling as she realized she was in the house she grew up in and looked in the kitchen. Her mothers head peeked out, "Oh hi Serrah. Your back from Emonds Field early. Was your trip a success?"

Serrah felt the purse at her waist and nodded as she realized it was probably lighter than it should have been and before she answered she noticed a wrapped bundle on the chair with the fragrence of herbs coming from it, "Yes Mother I got what you sent me for."

"Good girl. Did you get something for you and Corlan as well while you were out?"

"Why would I do that Ma? You know we have very little money as it is. Until I take over as Wisdom we don't make enough off of the Inn."

"Well that's why I gave you the extra money Serrah. Was so you could get yourselves something."

Serrah looked sheepishly at the floor as her mother reproached her, "Sorry Ma I guess I thought we had better uses for the money than getting something frivilous."

Her mother came out of the kitchen and gave her daughter a hug. They were very close to mirror images except her mother looked older and her hair was a greying fiery red, "It's ok child. At least you have a better head on your shoulders than I. Now come we have better things to do."

Serrah heard Aleatha's last words in her head again as she started to move with her Mother not really noticing the Silver archway in back of her until she turned around to get the package from the entry room.

"Come along Serrah I need those herbs for a poultice for Corlan's father..."

Serrah hesitated but heard Aleatha's words again. She set her shoulders as a tear came to her eye. She was scared. So scared. And she didn't want to leave her mother.

"The way back comes only once. Be steadfast."

Before the gate could close Serrah stepped back through.

Second Arch

Serrah blinked away the light again and looked around. She knew she was in the Grey Tower. But she didn't know exactly where.

"You there. Novice. What are you doing just standing around?"

Serrah whirled to see Valinda Sedai standing before her.

"Well answer me novice. What are you doing here?"

"I just got finished with my chores for the day Valinda Sedai. I thought I'd just walk the halls for my free period."

"Well a Novice with free time on her hands will help me with note taking. Come child."

Serrah followed dutifully behind hearing faintly Aleatha's words.

Valinda's study was small but well proportioned and she sat Serrah down at a small writing desk and gave her the biggest volume she had on her desk.

"Now I want you to copy every other word from this book making a comepletely new one. I don't care if it takes you till the end of your days to finish it. I at least expect 20 pages of paper done before you leave today."

Serrah cringed. She hated chores like this. And this one was the worst. The woman was evil. Pure evil. But soon she heard the words again and looked up just as Valinda was closing the door and say the archway on the other side.

Serrah stood up and started walking towards the door, "Where do you think your going child?"

"I need to use the bathroom quickly Aes Sedai."

"Well you'll just have to hold it child till I tell you you can go."

Serrah stood up with her temper flaring. Her voice would have made ice seem warm as she looked at the Aes Sedai, "No I don't think so. I need to go now!"

Serrah started walking to the door before she felt flows of Air surround her, "I'm afraid that if you don't listen I'll just have to kill you."

Serrah quickly embraced the source and slammed a shield in place on Valinda and ran out the door. She noticed the gateway was actually sitting just outside the window to the inner courtyard. Bracing herself Serrah jumped through.

Third Arch

Serrah stepped through the third Arch and her eyes quickly adjusted. She looked to see herself in a rather large study surrounded by ter'angreal and books of every sort. A soft knock on the door announced a visitor.

"Come." She said.

"Serrah Sedai? You are requested before the hall." said the novice who stepped in.

"Please tell the hall I will be there temporarily."

"They said I was to bring you now Aes Sedai."

Serrah nodded and grabbed her shawl from a peg on the wall and quickly placed it on her shoulders. Motioning for the novice to lead the way she walked out the door.

She thought about what she was doing with the hall. Bringing up the topic of the Black Ajah was never a good thing. Especially when you didn't know who to trust within the hall. The novice didn't have to walk far since Serrah had kept her study close to the hall in case of such emergencies.

The novice walked in before Serrah and announced in a loud voice, "Serrah Sedai, of the Blue Ajah, appearing before the Hall."

Serrah brushed one last piece of hair out of her eyes before stepping in with head held high. Aes Sedai serenity covering every inch of her being. Her steps were deliberate and spaced evenly as she walked into the Hall and looked around. None of them were her supperiors since she had been named the Head of her Ajah just a couple of short years after being fully raised. Some still whispered saying that she would be the next Amyrlin of the Tower if everything held out.

"Serrah Sedai," said the Amyrlin from her seat in the front of the hall, "You have been summoned based on the charge you brought before the hall concerning a certain darkfriend that is also a member of this Tower. You know you have broken an ancient vow to never speak of the Black Ajah do you not?"

Serrah swallowed a lump in her throat before speaking, "Yes Mother. I know that. But you must see the logic and the evidence all point to the existance of the Black Ajah within this Tower. You wouldn't expect it to stay in the White Tower as we moved here did you?"

"I would never expect such a thing my daughter. But speaking of it publicly is a danger to all of us."

"I know Mother and for that I can only apologize. But you have seen me grow within the Tower. You know my strength rivals the greatest they have at the White Tower even now. I have no fear of attack."

"But surely you can not stop everything that comes your way with the source."

"I know this mother that is why in my time abroad I also studied non channeling arts. But you must see that Zerenia Sedai is a darkfriend. She can not be anything but."

The Amyrlin rose and nodded at Serrah, "You are correct my child. But before you proceed I must inform you and all of the Hall of a very vital piece of information that no one has heard until now. Zerenia Sedai is dead."

Serrah stared open mouthed at the Amyrlin. All thoughts of serenity gone.

"How Mother? How did she die?"

"I have a select few Yellow Sisters delving her now to find out how it happened. We are not sure. But we have brought you here Serrah Sedai to bring a charge of murder on you."

Serrah looked more shocked at the news. She stared incredulously at the Amyrlin, "You can not mean that mother."

"I do my child. You are the only one holding animosity toward her. You are the one last seen with her. We therefore also bring the charge of darkfriend on you as well. Soldiers detain her."

Serrah looked frightened as she was soon surrounded by thirteen Soldiers. The words echoed in her head one final time before she saw the archway. It would be a battle but Serrah would make it. She had to.

The circle of thirteen was surrounding her. She grabbed the source before a shield was put into place and wove a gateway as close as she could to the archway. Stepping through she closed it quickly. She wove fireballs and any manner of thing to help save her. The smell of charred flesh filled her nostrals before stepping through the archway and to home.
