It all began two years ago. A young girl woke up in a forest in the middle of Amadicia, not knowing where she was, who she was or how she got there. She stood up, looking at herself, to find out she was a tall girl aged about 14 years old. She had long grey hairs and eyes in the same color, and she was wearing what had once been a beautiful white dress, but now all that was left of it were rags.

The girl decided to walk on, trying to find out where she was and who she was. She followed the small path in the forest, and near nightfall she came to a small cottage, and she knocked on the door. An old man opened, surprised to see someone so strange in front of his door. The girl looked helpless, however, and the man couldn't do anything but let her in and offer her some warm food and a place to sleep.

"What is your name, stranger?" the man asked. The girl looked at him in wonder, as if she did not know what he meant. Then she spoke, softly: "I have no name, my Lord. I am no one." The girl spoke as though it was the first time she did so, yet the words seemed to come out naturally.

This is not normal, the man thought. I must not get involved with things like this, or the Children will suspect me of everything from being a Darkfriend to being an Aes Sedai myself.

He told the girl she could sleep in the barn, and he warned her he would chase her out himself if she were not gone by dawn the next morning.

That night, she first dreamed of Aleatha.

It was a strange dream, it seemed familiar to the girl. She dreamed about a beautiful, golden-haired girl about her age, dancing in the village on Sunday, having fun with her friends. The girl's name was Aleatha, and she was Amadician, her father an officer of the Children of the Light and her mother the exact image of what Aleatha would look like when she'd be older.

Aleatha was on her way home after a long evening, and she suddenly saw a man fall out of a window. She did not know how it came he fell, yet she did know he would not survive his fall. Running to the place the man lay, Aleatha got angry because the man was going to die, and she touched him and suddenly... his wounds seemed to mend.

The next morning, the grey-haired girl ran off before dawn, continuing her search for an identity and a destiny. She had the dreams more often, revealing Aleatha's course of life, and the sad ending of it when her father found out she was a channeler. It had been channeling Aleatha used to Heal that man, of course. The girl was touched by Aleatha's story, and she decided to call herself Mercia, as a reminder of the mercy that had saved Aleatha from being killed by the Children of the Light.

The forest grew thinner, and small villages showed up along Mercia's way. She would often stop at one of those villages and enter an inn, singing the songs of her life in exchange for a meal and a place to sleep. The men at the inns would call her Mercia Teardrop, for her song had the power to touch one's heart and to make their eyes grow wet with the memories of the things they used to have.

Mercia followed her way for months, until she got to a village in the Misty Mountains. A woman walked up to her there, asking her if she were aware she could channel. Mercia was not aware of it then, but she invited the woman's invitation to follow her to a place called the Grey Tower where she would be trained to use the One Power and to become an Aes Sedai.

She had only been a novice of the Tower for a few weeks, when she had one of the dreams again. She decided she wanted to find out what they were all about, so she went to see someone who knew much about dreams. Phylia Sedai had listened to her story, and when Mercia ended it, Phylia had said she thought Mercia and Aleatha were in fact the same person. Of course, Mercia could not accept that option, and she ran away in anger, not believing anyone could think something like that.

There were more signs, however. Mercia found out she had a Healing Talent, and with every step she took, she had the feeling she had done it before, channeling the flows that Healed someone's injuries, even though she could not recall ever having channeled before. Mercia denied the signs, even though she could not find a logical explanation for any of them.

When at last she was summoned to the Three Arches to become Accepted, it finally all became clear. Mercia was Aleatha indeed. It was so, that Mercia decided to start carrying her name of birth again, and as Accepted Aleatha Fondir she began training to become Aes Sedai. She had found her destiny, at last.
