Durent took a deep breath and walked into the Arch. Light swallowed him.

Durent was working in the Inn early, because he had hoped to go out with his friends later that day. A fresh supply of food had just been delivered by some merchants that his father always bought from, and he was busy hauling boxes into the storeroom. His mother all of the sudden called him from the kitchen. She did all the cooking at their Inn, he had never told her, but her food was always delicious. He set down the box he was carrying and walked to the kitchen. His sister, Ellia, was helping her bake fresh bread for later that day. He smiled at her and then walked over to his mother.

"Yes mother?" he asked.

"Thanks for coming in early this morning Durent, sweetie, but can I ask why?" She was always good at reading his mind. He smiled, and she smiled, "Mom, I was hoping that if I started work early, that I could go do something with Jon." Jon was his best friend. "Well, I'll have to ask your father, but I'm sure it will be fine."

Be steadfast. The way back comes but once.

He looked around, where had that voice come from...? He shook it off, and gave his mother a hug. He gave his sister a wink as he went back to the storeroom to finish moving the boxes. When he had finished, he went back in, his father was in his office, but his mother just smiled and nodded, that meant he had said yes. He went into the lobby, and said hello to some of the regular guests. He saw his friend Jon outside, waving for him to come on. This was perfect, spending time with friends, having a loving family. A voice rang inside his head: Something I've wanted for so long? He didn't know what to make of that, his family had always loved him. He looked next to the entrance of the Inn, but just to the left, he saw a golden arch. He was split, but suddenly he remembered why he was there. He was torn, having a good life again, with a loving family, or back to his responsibilities. He walked in between them both, not knowing what to do. He turned and saw his mother and sister. Tears started coming down his face. You'll see them again, he tells himself. He throws himself into the golden arch. Light enveloped him.

Durent had finished another class at the Warder Yards, unarmed combat. He adjusted his sword pin as he walked. He was on his way out of the tower, to the Band of Brother's Inn. He walked out of the gates with a nod to the guards there and walked down the path. As he approached the Inn, he saw something moving off in the forest to his right. He looked over and saw nothing, but he knew something was there. He strayed off of the path, and what he saw startled him. He saw a trolloc standing over a screaming girl. The girl seemed strangely familiar. He ran into the forest. He wasn't sure what he was going to do, he didn't have a sword with him. What was a trolloc doing this far south by itself? The trolloc raised it's sword and was ready to swing when he ran up to it yelling, "Hey!" It stopped itself in half-swing and spun around. Durent jumped into the air and kicked it in the face sideways. It staggered back and took a blind swing at him, he dodged to the side. He kicked the hand holding the sword as hard as he could. The sword flew out of it's hand. He then punched it as hard as he could in its face. It doubled over and took a few steps back. He picked up the sword and swung as hard as he could at the neck. The head came clear off and rolled across the ground. He sighed, and dropped the back sword.

He turned to the girl, "Are you alri...Ellia?!" The girl looked up, it was his sister. He couldn't believe it. "Durent?" She ran over and gave him a hug. They hugged and hugged. He couldn't believe this was happening. "Ellia, what are you doing here?" She was crying. "Father has been looking for you ever since you had to leave Caemlyn all those years ago. We've traveled the world looking for you, and now we've found you. Come on, the rest of the family is waiting down in Elman's Creek. Come on!' She ran towards the path, and turned around, motioning for him to come. He turned around, there was the golden arch. He realized, with sadness and anger, that this wasn't real again. But it had to be! He looked at his sister, smiling, telling him to come on, then he looked back at the arch. He cried out with anger, and jumped back into the arch.

Durent stepped off of his horse. He was in Caemlyn. He was home again. He was wearing a black outfit, with a Green Cord, and both his Sword and Dragon pins. He was officially on Grey Tower business, but he saw no reason whatsoever he couldn't visit his family. Afterall, he hadn't seen them in 10 years now. Ellia was 16 when he left, she would be a grown woman now. He walked down the street until he reached where his family's Inn was. He tied off his horse, and walked inside. He didn't recognize the person behind the counter. He walked up to the bar and ordered a drink. "Greetings sir, I was wondering if you know if the Antians still own this Inn?" He was sure it was the same inn, it still bore the same name. "I'm sorry sir, the Antians sold this Inn to me four years ago. I'm a friend of theirs. The name's Kole." Durent shook the man's hand. "Why do you ask?" Durent looked away before answering, then looked back. "I used to live near here, thats all. Do you know where they went?" The man thought for a moment, then answered. "Well, I know that little Ellia...," Durent stiffened as she was mentioned, "...married a young farmer from the Two Rivers. She moved to live there on his farm, and when you parents retired and sold the Inn, they moved out there also."

Durent nodded, the Two Rivers, he'd never been there, but he'd heard much about the place. He thanked the man, and then headed out. He quickly delivered the message to his informant in the city, and got on his horse, and galloped out of the city as fast as he could. As he left the gate, something caught his eye off the road. It was the golden arch. This was getting sad, he thought to himself. How many times are they going to flash the hopes of seeing my family in front of me?! He hung his head, but then got off his horse, and sprinted towards the arch.

The Light engulfed him.
