The hard packed clay ground echoed the harshness of the sun over head, it was nearly midday and the heat was starting to pick up in the Sparring Arena of the Grey Tower. Although a fresh breeze blew through the yards a sheen of perspiration decorated most of the bodies present with wet rings around the neck, and a streak down the spine. With the breeze, some of the loose clay was whipped on the air and peppered Kile's face. The watching Drin'far'ji made a circle around the two opponents. Kile drew the Katana at his waist and the gleaming blade shined in the sun as Drean drew his own blade which was very similar to Kile's. The glowering Drin' no more than twenty feet from him set himself down in Low Guard.

As Kile packed his very few belongings so that he could move into the Accepted, Dedicated and Ji'alantin Halls he knew that not all the Drin'far'ji were happy for him in his raising like his friend Lo'arn was. They had become friends as soon as Kile had been accepted into the Tower. His friend was no where to be found now though, he was probably taking another class that Kile had already taken. An itch formed itself in between his shoulder blades and he knew that he was being watched. The stare that he got when he turned around was hot enough to cook eggs on. This Drin', Drean was certainly one of those few who thought that Kile shouldn't have been raised before them.

"Hello Drean, is there something I can do for you?" Kile asked calmly.

"Burn me man, you are raised before any of the rest of us? You can't even swing that sword of yours with out hurting yourself." The shorter dark haired man snickered. "What would you say to a duel, Ji'alantin? Then we'll all know for sure that your no good."

Kile shook his head ruefully, this man would not be averted, that he knew for sure. "Fine, first blood then, midday on the morrow. I'm much to busy to be bothered with this now. Now be gone before you anger me." The man in Kile's doorway smirked and walked away.

The twilight silhouetted Kile as he ran through his sword forms, The Swallow Takes Flight into a tight spin for Thistledown Floats on the Whirlwind which is used to behead an opponent, that went into Striking the Spark. As Kile finished the series of over hand blows his best friend Lo'arn spoke from a shadowed place near the barracks, were Kile had not seen him. "Are you sure you want to go through with this Kile?"

Kile twisted quickly around into Leopard in the Tree, with both his hands on the sword that he had just sheathed. "What do you mean?" Kile asked nonchalantly.

"You know exactly what I mean." He said heatedly while stepping out of the shadows and into the moonlit night. "It's the topic of every room in the barracks tonight, there are a lot of people betting on it. You're a Ji' Kile you don't need to go through with it." He said as he spread his arms wide needlessly showing that he wasn't armed. Kile had relaxed immediately when he saw it was his friend.

"I know that, I just want to show every one that I do deserve this raising." Kile walked to his friend, and put his hands on his shoulders. "Who did you bet on?" He smiled and continued walking with Lo'arn back to the barracks. "Its time to retire for the night, do you know what Drean is doing tonight?" He asked.

Lo'arn laughed deeply, " He's out at the Band of Brothers drinking and telling every tavern maid he can see about how he's going to win." They shared a chuckle and then walked into the barracks to get a good nights sleep.

Kile faced Drean who was in Low Guard, he closed in with Cat Crosses the Courtyard, and then stopped about ten feet from his opponent then went into the Lion on the Hill stance, with his blade at shoulder height and his balance resting just right, so that he could do almost anything from there. Drean attacked with Wood Grouse Dances, a quick series of slashes and thrusts that was usually used to feel out an enemy. Kile reacted to turn away the slashes and he dodged to the side from the last thrust and then moved in. He counter-attacked with Courtier Taps his Fan, a powerful overhand blow that is designed to split the head open. He met Kile's attack with a straight block and countered with The Swallow Takes Flight, an upper slash that turns into a thrust at about mid height.

Kile parried the thrust offered by Drean using The Falling Leaf, which is a more exaggerated form of Boar rushes Down the Mountain that sweeps back and forth multiple times before reaching its lowest point. With the blade knocked aside Kile moved in on the over confident Drin' with Low Wind Rising, the cut aimed at the head suddenly veered to the right and took Drean on the top of the left arm, leaving an angry red slash that began to seep.

The jeering crowd that had provided a good amount of commotion went silent as Drean dropped the sword from his injured arm, and slapped the other hand across the cut. Staring daggers at the victor of their duel, he picked up the sword that he had dropped, sheathed it, and stalked away towards the infirmary. Kile just watched as he went and then used Folding the Fan to sheath his own blade after cleaning the small smear of blood from its keen edge. His neck length blonde hair hung limp with sweat, and his shirt clung to him. As the ring of Drin'far'ji dissipated Lo'arn walked over to him.

"There are a few people who I'd like to introduce our victor to, and it just so happens that they live in the Band of Brothers and are twins named Ale, and Wine." The two friends laughed as they made their way towards the inn.

"I suppose that its a lot like that when you really have to kill, it just kind of happens to work out for you... I didn't see the opening he left me until after I had won. It just happens..."
