The Aes Sedai hurried past an alcove in a relatively unused corridor. Slowing, the dark haired woman did a double take and backtracked, scuffing up dust as she went. In the alcove was a beautiful vase crafted of a grainy pink stone. The vase's fragile appearance was added to by the carved dancing figures that decorated the lip and body. A single bloom sat in the vase's embrace.

Saraid surmised that the flower must have only recently been cut and placed in the vase by the near invisible servants of the Grey Tower but the dust belied her theory, collected in the petals and in the relief of the carvings. Her interested peaked, the Green Sister immediately wanted to know why the flower was so fresh - like it had been plucked from the gardens that minute - and yet held so much dust. Saraid leant forward and blew the dust from the ornament. She sneezed almost immediately, blinded as her eyes watered. She felt that her allergy to dust must almost be legendary now, and why she was continuously found in areas that carried a lot of dust must have been debated by her peers and seniors and the lesser ranks of the Tower.

The blossom shook from her breath and she reached out a gentle hand to still its movement. Amused, she smoothed the soft petal beneath the sensitive tips of her fingers. The gentle movement waved the fragrant scent in her direction and she lifted the flower to smell the perfume more deeply. As the delicately wrought blossom moved away from the vase it crumbled to dust in her hands. Saraid's mouth dropped open in shock, and then was quickly hidden in a glassy mask of Aes Sedai calm though her green eyes showed puzzlement. She did not really need to don the face - as she called it - but it was long ingrained, and now automatic.

Inwardly disappointed she embraced saidar to weave a gateway to the gardens so she might find a replacement flower but she was halted by another shock. The vase held a resonance to saidar. Stunned by this realisation, she immediately picked up the vase and then hurried back in the direction she had come from, almost retracing her steps except that she ended inside the M'Hael's office. She could have gone to either the M'Hael or the Amyrlin Seat - both had been raised from the Indigo Ajah - but Melabrid's office had been closer.
