Dedicated Calidius was Accepted Saphire's first promised Warder. As they journied to the west to rescue her mother, Amora Sedai, from Seanchan-held territory Calidius was lost.

He never returned to the Tower alive. This was their last private moment.

Saphire watched for the sky through the gaps between branches. The patches of blue became more frequent until Mystdancer led her through parted trees. The sun suddenly lit upon her as they drew into the clearing. When her eyes focused she saw Calidius pacing not far away. She frowned curiously and dismounted, but as she approached he seemed to only concentrate harder. She nearly reached out her hand to ask if he was well, but he only sighed and looked into her eyes.

She was stunned. His eyes held the same risk she had felt after the Arches. But she remembered how he had listened as she had poured out her heart. "Saphire, you might be wondering why I asked you to come here." He took a deep breath for a moment and continued. "Since we met, we have became good friends, prehaps more. We have trusted each other with things that we would never have told any one else. And, after much thought, I have decided that there is something else I would like to trust you with, something that I hope you will accept."

He kneeled then and she felt her heart skip a beat. He held her hands in his and spoke, "Saphire, would you give me the honour of bonding me when you are raised to Aes Sedai."

The wind was still like a wait between breaths. Her breaths. I had hoped, but never expected . . . But suprisingly, her words came with ease. "There is no one I trust more than you. I know you would guard my life as you have my secrets. You do indeed mean more to me than a friend. Yes, the honour would be mine to bond you."
