Darien Andadreus Jolstraer is a Shienaran Blue Oathsworn Asha'man of the Grey Tower.
Description
Darien Andadreus Jolstraer, son of Jakam and Kayla, was born in 974 NE. He is an Asha’man of the Blue Ajah, having served as a Sitter for the past two years. He is bonded and wed to Miahala Jolstraer Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah. He has three children, his stepson Ryne Machera the II, adopted daughter Chayla Jade Mahara-Nachiman, and daughter Sadira Rose Jolstraer.
Biography
Darien was born in the small garrison town of Ellev, found in the southeastern regions of Shienar. His father was a blacksmith, but his mother died of a fever when he was two years old. He stand 6’3” tall, raven black hair shaved into a topknot, and a trimmed black beard that leaves the cheeks bare. His ice blue eyes hold mischief and eagerness that has not faded since the first day he joined the Shienaran army.
Darien joined the Shienaran army when he was eighteen years old, after all that he knew and loved was burned and pillaged by a fist of Trollocs. He joined the army to exact revenge on the Shadowspawn that had taken away his home and his life. He hoped that this would in some way make his father proud of him afterall.
When he began in the infantry he proved himself a good swordsman and adept with the horse. He quickly attained the rank of File Leader and commanded his own infantry squad. On a trip north to Tarwin’s Gap, he helped turned the tides of an ambush by a superior number of Trollocs and Myrddraal. By using the personal banner of a fallen Saldaean lord, he managed to lead courageous men into distracting the Trollocs long enough for the main body of troops to regroup and rout the fearsome Shadowspawn. The Banner found by Darien was that of a golden eagle stretched in flight on a field of black. This led to him being called the Golden Eagle of Tarwin’s Gap, and to his promotion to Senior Bannerman of Aelrynn’s Eagles, the toughest light-cavalry skirmisher squadron in Shienar. Their duty was dedicated to scouting out troop movements of Trolloc fists.
Darien frequented the famous Crown and Sword Tavern of Fal Dara, a place famous for being the ‘last meal’ of men riding north to Tarwin’s Gap. He was well known for composing poetry and reciting it to the soldiers gathered at the Crown and Sword as a blessing before battle. It was there he met his first true love, Tyra Ronsaerd, the daughter of a minor noble family. They fell in love, and it was frequent that Darien would write her love poems that rivaled the famed Amaline Poems of Artur Hawkwing.
It was unfortunate for the two that their romance did not fair long, for Darien left the army and his life in Shienar after a brutal argument with Tyra. Her father, known for hating Darien and his common ways within his heart, arranged a marriage between his daughter and a rival lord’s son to seal a deal. Darien was furious, and was even more betrayed when Tyra, albeit it forcedly, agreed. Shouts of ‘betrayal’ and ‘liar’ rang throughout the keep, and both left Shienar with no thoughts of coming back.
Darien traveled much of the land in search of something to fill the void in his soul. He once found himself at the gates of Tar Valon, the White Tower itself, and enrolled to train under the Gaidin there. He spent two years there, honing his skills, but soon found himself inthralled by a greater force in his life: saidin.
Fearful for his life and his sanity, an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah there told him of a way to live without fear. Her name was Amora, and she showed him the Grey Tower, and a new life of channeling the One Power ad protecting the beliefs of the Blue Ajah and promoting the Dragon Reborn.
Now he serves that same purpose still, ready to defend those beliefs and his Aes Sedai; his family.
