Daliner Codalin is an Illianer Soldier of the Grey Tower.
Description
A tall man of nearing his middle years and beginning to show it. He has the first signs of age showing, his face is beginning to slightly wrinkle, his black hair is starting to turn silver and may be thinning slightly. He was a handsome man in his youth but that too is beginning to fade. He has short neatly kept dark brown, verging on black hair and sharp intelligent blue eyes. In past he tended to wear his armour even when not on duty although now he wears the black coat of a Soldier.
A calm and collected individual he has much outgrown much of the haste and recklessness he possessed as a youth although it does occasionally surface when is temper is roused. As an officer he processed a temper although he learned to control it and only to use it when needed. Despite it he can still lose control when he is provoked in the correct manner. He is loyal to those he considers friends and those whom he feels had has a responsibility of obligation to. He will do anything in his power to keep them alive although he will perform his duty first. His sense of duty is strong, stronger even than his loyalty and honour. Attacking his duty is the easiest way to provoke him to rage. He believes that his duty is to uphold justice and protect those who cannot protect themselves and will fight and kill for the belief.
He is an intelligent man if not educated. When he enlisted and rose up the ranks he received basic education in order to allow him to fulfil his increased duties although he has never studied further than what was needed of him and what allowed him to preform his job better. He is quick on his feet and is a relatively skilled planner and tactician for his position. He is logical but often blunt and pointed, rarely beating around the bush. He is a skilled leader and is able to be on good terms with his soldiers without being too friendly with them. He is not an overly friendly man by nature and can be hard without necessarily meaning to be. His years of soldiering have hardened him to the work. He is unfazed by many of the atrocities which occur and is willing to do hard things in the name of duty and honour.
Biography
Born and raised as a poor farmers son he was the youngest of seven boys. They lived on a largish farm but had little money as all crops were used to survive and to feed their animals. As a result, he wasn't particularly needed around the farm. He was still made to work but when he asked permission of his parents at sixteen to enlist they granted it as there was still six older boys who could still work the farm. He enlisted on a twenty-five-year service as a member of the Illianer Companion guard. During his training was noted to be skilled with a sword and so was assigned to the Heavy Infantry section of the Companions. Due to both his skill with a sword and natural intelligence he was quickly picked out and promoted. He rose through the ranks as a result of his skill in battle and his natural ability to bring out the best in those whom he commanded. After twenty years he reached the rank of Second Captain and was placed in command of a full Company of Heavy Infantry. He led his company for five years before reaching the end of his service. Most of this service consisted of more normal duties such as hunting bandits out on the plains. It was just before this time that he took a near lethal injury in a battle with some bandits. He would have died had an Asha'man not being with his group of soldiers and healed him. This left him with a slight injury due to the Asha'man's lack of skill in healing. This left him with the inability to undergo prolonged physical exercise. He is still capable of fighting at full skill for a short period of time but would be unable to endure for a battle. It was on the return journey that the Asha'man tested him to see if he could channel and found that he could. He was offered a place as a Soldier. He accepted the offer as he was near to the end of his term of service. By they time the part returned to the city his service had expired and was able to leave to the Grey Tower via gateway almost immediately. He hopes to use the opportunity provided by the Tower to further the work he did in the Companions, protecting people from harm.
