Conor Palfrey is an Andoran Gaidin of the Grey Tower.

Description

Appearance

A very large set character, Conor was considered 'fat' by most standards when he entered the Yard. Standing at 6'5" with cropped sandy blond hair and blue eyes, he is a very large man. As the years tested and trained him (and in the care of the infamously difficult mentorship of Cairma Vishnu), Conor grew out of his 'fat' stage only to be more of a large lumox of a beast with a much larger build. However, don't let it fool you as this man is a swift liar who has at times spun many a tales with his characteristically expressive face.

Conor dresses in the usual regalia; trousers, shirt, belt and the occasional vest, and nothing underneath as it chafes something fierce. He wears the standard armor of the Yard, and is one of the few in the yard capable of wearing full plate armor with the Tower Crest on the chest. However it is usually only worn on the battle ground. Conor doesn’t aim to impress with his clothes as merely the sword does it for the Tavern ladies of Hama Valon. He had concluded long ago that he would never be bonded, no point in primping like a girl when all he wanted was his trusty sword, ale, girls and no responsibility. Thats what ruins the good men, after all.

Personality

She was tiny; in that 'kind of cute and easy to throw around' kind of tiny that He loved. Although she didn't have that pretty red hair that he loved so much, Conor still liked looking at her. No, he liked looking at all women in the yard but this one caught enough of his attention to watch a little more from afar. It wasn't a rarety for him to do so, oh no not really in this case at all, women of the yard were kind of scary and it was hard to pick up who would be fun in bed, fun in the yard or who to stay the hell away from. It was a learned skill, Conor mused foully, but he will learn it one day! Mark him, he will learn it!

Her name was on the tip of his tongue. Conor mused with sour thoughts. Cairma thought he was slow, but no it was a bad memory. Really, that was his excuse. He saw a pretty girl walk by and he just forgot forms! It was perfectly normal, right? But his former mentor was one of those 'scary' women. That huge Beast of a sword and he would have gone running back home if he didn't respect her and the others so much more. And Sahra. He missed her.

It was one of the pains of no longer being a Trainee. The woman he loved was off running about with Ursana and happily living a life in and out of the Yard doing light knew what. It made for a very lonely, not to mention bored!, Palfrey. It was enough to bring any man to tears, and he was getting close to that as well. Light forgive him if his eyes were to wander where his mind would often spend. Not that he wanted to bed 'every' woman of the Yard, he was no Aran, but he missed the companionship. Was that where it was often? No, he was well humoured and after Kandor his humour took a turn for the worse. He actually had serious moments now! It pained him, really it did!

She caught his attention now. Her the pretty Tower Guard with no name, had his full attention and without thinking, as per usual, Conor strolled up and nearly knocked the girl over as she turned and did not see him. (Ah hA! He was still silent in his walk and better than her! He could sneak up on only so many Guards that he took victory where he could!) Barely a moment recovery Conor flashed her a rather saucy, very Palfrey!, grin.

"How you doing?"

(It came out totally wrong!)

  • Conor has a knack for doing something stupid. He says stupid things, does stupid things and usually doesn't think through on things to figure out if it was stupid or not. However, it's a charming trait if not mildly entertaining for friends.
  • Although he doesn't admit to it, he is actually very skilled with his sword and anything Hand-to-Hand. When he gets himself in trouble he usually comes out alive and fine but her considers it luck not skill. Usually its skill.
  • Conor is one of very few people that inspires trust in others. You always know where you stand and he will always be that faithful puppy that sprouts wings just because you asked him to. I consider this a talent as it is fairly rare especially among those in the Tower.
  • Conor can sing.

Biography

Andorian born to a very rich textile merchant, Conor’s father Davrin Palfrey (A single child himself - arrogant & never been of need or want) felt that the only way to shape up his wayward son was to enlist him in the Queens Royal Guard. His mother, Audrina Palfrey, was worse and cared very little for the son she gave birth to. It was not a loving family that Conor grew up in and shouting matches were as common as Silk in Arad Doman. Daily Conor retreated to the kitchens, stables (and when of an older age) a small tavern on the edge of Caemlyn. It was there he learned the lighter side of life through ale and women. But as his next name day was fast approaching, he needed a plan to avoid the path his parents were forcing on him.

“To Tar Valon.” He had thought, musing over an ale. “To study the Sword under the Light, like the Queen’s own Sons have.” Conor knew his history, and his studies, and it had always been tradition for the heirs of the Andorian Throne to study within the walls of the infamous White Tower. Heading home, Conor wasted no time in packing up a satchel of clothes, and a bag of crowns and left home, whistling a very happy tune.

Arriving at the Tower, well fed and refreshed from spending one last night in a paid room, Conor met up with the Mistress of Trainees, Ginae, and was promptly assigned to Cairma Vishnu as a mentor and his roommate was Mahiko, a lanky male Arafellian. Across from his room was Sahra Covenry and Fior. Unfortunately for Conor, these were not women that he was used to. Woman he knew were either cold hearted, like his mother, or arm tassels for coin. After his first meeting with Cairma, his view of women changed drastically and he felt very intimidated by them, especially those within the Tower. It hindered his ability to learn under Cairma, but yet with Mahiko, Fior and Sahra’s help, he was able to get over the worst of his apparent shyness and instead developed a fierce need to protect such strong women. His ties with these three trainees grew very close, especially him and Fior as they both shared the same mentor.

Over the course of the first few years, it was nothing just getting in shape, training, and the occasional visit to the Tavern Sahra once worked in. After a years time, Sahra convinced him to court one of the barmaids that was fairly close to Sahra named Susa. For a time it was good. On his days off he would go see her and they would talk and laugh, but as Fior’s relationship with Sahra developed, and her apparent attachment to her mentor Ursana, Conor grew more and more troubled and dissatisfied. He worried more over Sahra than he did over his own life. Susa took great offense to this and grew jealous of Conor's apparent “Love” for Sahra. Denying the possibility as Sahra was practically a sister, she only huffed and turned away. The relationship ended on a sour note. But instead of wallowing, he kept the pain deeply hidden and carried on as nothing happened. Shara however noticed this and, like the nosy gossip hound she was, wouldn’t settle until Conor could explain to her why her good friend Susa would no longer speak to her and why Conor would be seen practicing sword forms on his off days (which he never did before.)

“My priorities have changed.” Was all he would tell her at first, but as she persisted, he admitted that Susa felt jealous of her, Sahra, and left him. Not wishing to drag it on, Conor left Sahra and instead headed back out into the Yard to repeat every sword form Cairma taught him, making mistakes in each one.

Just before being raised in rank in he learned of Sahra's engament and it hurt him dearly enough that he just could not watch her happiness and feeling as hurt. Taking his sword, ale jug, he took to the road and headed to Hama Valon. He wanted to serve Aes Sedai, not have his heart beaten into the floor.
