Biography

Chance was born to a family who owned a small farm in the country of Andor. The small farm was like most others with the exception that it produced horses for sale from a stock that’s bloodline was known to produce very fine warhorses. His stepfather, Owen Darksbane, served for 20 years in the Queens guard. He retired and settled down on the farm after marrying Chance’s mother.

Chance’s and his twin brother Garridon grew up working hard, putting in long hours of labor on the family farm always looking forward to the special time of evening after supper when Owen would give them their lessons in using the sword. Both of the boys enjoyed this time with their father, caught on very fast and by 17 years old were very proficient in a variety of bladed weapons.

It was also at 17 years of age, that Chance and Garridon both began to show the signs of the abilities to channel. With their Mother having been a wilder this did not surprise Owen, but instead made him very concerned. Both of the boys stood 6 foot 4 in height and had muscular builds from the years of hard work and weapons training. Although the looked remarkably alike like many twins do, there were several differences. Chance had light brown hair, while Garridons was coal black. Their eyes were different colors, green and brown respectively and their temperaments were as different as night and day.

The night before they were scheduled to leave home for training at the Gray Tower was a stormy one. It had rained all day. Inside their home they sat by the fire listening to the rain as their thoughts of things to come filled their minds. The next morning they arose to find the rain had broken and the two days journey by horseback would at least be a dry one. Owen Darksbane waved goodbye to them as they headed off to the east to get their structured training at the Grey Tower. Even Owen himself was not aware of things soon to come.

At sunset that night they made camp, talked little but all seemed normal between them until the tall man arrived on horseback. A giant of man, riding the largest black steed they had ever seen approached the fire as their hands slid slowly onto the hilts of their swords. The giant laughed, and spoke to them.

“Chance and Garridon, I mean you no harm, I have been sent as liaison to escort one of you to the Black Tower, the other will venture on to the Grey Tower in the morning.”

The man was charismatic and soon had won their confidence. He explained why Garridon would come with him and why they were to be separated. After a few cups of Kaf and general conversation, Garridon left with the Giant that had only identified himself as a liaison and the name of Abram. After ensuring the fire was out and he had his mount packed, Chance headed on to the Gray Tower that night. He had never been separated from Garridon so this was a time of change for him indeed. The last words Garridon spoke to him were ones he would never forget. “Goodbye Brother, the wheel weaves as the wheel wills.”

Chance arrived at the Grey Tower mid afternoon the next day and reported to the Mistress of Novices and Soldiers. An Aes Sedai raised from the Blue Ajah that made him a bit weary. As the days turned into months and the months to years, Chance learned a lot. His natural healing ability caught the attention of the M’Hael who himself had been raised from the Yellow. M’Hael Keyeren Asha’man became Chance’s mentor and friend.

He taught and guided him in the art of healing and kept him very busy with his studies.

Chance also enjoyed going to the Warder Yard to keep practicing his sword skills and continue to learn and increase his proficiency. He made many friends who were Drin’far’ji and Ji’ Alantin in training to become Gaidin. He spent as much time in the Warder yard as he did in his studies. Although he never spoke of him, he often wondered how Garridon was getting along at the Black Tower and when he would see him again.

Many other things went through his mind about the night they were separated. He kept it to himself however as he knew the wheel weaved as it willed. Chance worked hard everyday and was raised to Asha’man. He earned the title of Blademaster, and was raised and became the first Asha’man Master of Arms in the history of the Grey Tower.

The years went by and as the wheel weaved its will, a catastrophic earthquake destroyed the Grey Tower. The aftermath was unexplainable as far as the amount of destruction that had occurred. Slowly they rebuilt the Grey Tower, eventually surpassing its old glory.

The wheel weaves as the wheel wills. Circumstances and events outside his control lead to him having to leave the Tower for an unknown extended period of time. His request that Dagor Gaidin replace him as Master Of Arms and that Justan Gaidin be raised to Master Of Training was honored.

For the next several years it is unknown to many, only known by a few, where the pattern lead him and what and why he hade been gone for so long. All that is known is that in his travels, he met up with his old friend Justan Gaidin somewhere in the borderlands. The Pattern having lead both of them away from the Grey Tower for different reason also had done so for a few similar ones. The wheel weaves as the wheel wills.

They returned to the Grey Tower together. Many lessons learned, their lives ever changing, surprises never ending, to serve the light and see where it takes them…
