Catieri al'Cardyn is an Andoran White Oathsworn Aes Sedai of the Grey Tower.

Description

Catieri is short and slight, with dark brown hair and large blue eyes. She has delicate vine-like scars on the insides of both wrists where she once tried to slit them. Catieri had a traumatic youth, leaving her somewhat mentally unstable, though assistance from White and Yellow sisters followed by world travel and bonding a warder has helped a great deal. Once painfully shy and skittish, Catieri is now confident in her own abilities, though she remains quiet, and will likely be a bit withdrawn once returned to the setting of so many painful memories.

Biography

Sunlight broke through the clouds to silver the mist that lay at the base of the Grey Tower. It seemed an auspicious omen, and more than Catieri al'Cardyn had looked for at the end of this journey--for every fond memory of the Tower, Cat could conjure at least two she'd rather forget, though she'd be the first to admit there was much she had forgotten, both good and ill. And wasn't that why she was here, after all? For all that her travels had changed her, there were still memories she needed to face, to understand before she could truly be at peace within herself. She turned to smile at the man beside her, though the smile was strained, brittle.

"Promise me, Dheren. If...if they shield me again, you must kill me." Catieri stumbled over the words the smile slipping, well aware that what she asked could well sentence her Warder to his own death, too. "The Tower is full of Aes Sedai and Asha'man who could help you, after...who could bond with you, keep you safe. They aren't bad people, Dheren, they just...I just couldn't..."

Dheren nudged his black destrier close against her own grey mare and wrapped his arms around her, plucking her out of the saddle to cradle her against him.

"You'll be fine, Cat," he murmured against her hair. "They won't try because they won't need to, so stop worrying. But yes, I promise. But if it does come to that--and it's unlikely--what makes you think I'd want one of them to 'help' me?"

"Ugh, don't say things like that!" Cat cried, wriggling out of his embrace to thump his shoulder and dash away her tears. She slid to the ground and frowned petulantly at him before turning to remount her own horse. "I'm on the edge, Dheren, I can feel it. No, there hasn't been need in years, but now...who can say? I'm frightened, Dheren, but I must go back; there are pieces of myself that I left behind, and I'll never be whole without them."

"Well, that's as it may be. I can't say I like it, but if you must go, I will be at your side, as I have been through all our travels. But this is far enough for today; there is a village just there, and likely an inn. Spend tonight in front of a warm fire, and face your fears in the morning."

Catieri sighed, her heart weary, wishing herself back on the many long journeys she and Dheren had shared.

"Aye. Elman's Creek has a fine inn, and I see the clouds are coming back. To the Band of Brothers, then."
