Born in Fal Dara and raised by Camen Ars'Mors, a skilled swordsman and well-known defender of Shienar, Calidius spent his last five years guarding the Borderlands. During the seventeen years of his life he showed much courage and bravery, but was ultimately in the shadow of his father's greater accomplishments. Two weeks after his eighteenth birthday he was given the honour to fight beneath the banner of the Black Hawk at Tarwin's Gap.

When they made their final charge, his father fell beside with a Trolloc's hooked blade in his ribs. Calidius felt like he was on fire, yet at the same time everything was clear. He saw death everywhere. The only thing that mattered to him was avenging his father. Every where he rode Trollocs fell, his glowing sword seeming to cut through them as if they wore no armour. He knew what was happening to him. He had seen his cousin and childhood friend Conrad Shinowa touch saidin, and was told what happened when he embraced the male side of the One Power.
