Caitelyn Cabrerin is a Hama Valoner Indigo Oathsworn Aes Sedai of the Grey Tower.

Description

Caitelyn has long, reddish brown hair that reaches her waist and brown eyes. She stands about 5'5 and at sixteen is nearly done growing. Most days she can be found wearing a simple dress with her hair in a braid. She doesn't pay very much attention to her physical appearance since few people outside her family ever see her.

She is something of a recluse, preferring to stay indoors and help around the household. Those who love Caitelyn would say that she is one of the nicest people they know, but she appears cold to people who don't know her well. The truth of the matter is that Caitelyn is shy and takes a long time to trust anyone new. She has a difficult time talking to people when she first meets them, and especially dislikes men her age. Nobody can explain this, least of all Caitelyn herself, but she just does not relate well to men unless they are significantly older or younger than she is. She has a compliant nature and will obey anyone set in authority over her without questioning, driven by fear of punishment.

Biography

Caitelyn blinked at her mother as her mother shook her bed. "Wake up, Caitelyn! Did you forget what day it is?" Shaking her head, Caitelyn slowly remembered what made this morning special, different from any other. She was turning sixteen today, and would be going to the Grey Tower with her mother to be tested for channeling ability. It hadn't been her idea, but her mother's. Caitelyn had always known that her mother dreamed of having an Aes Sedai for a daughter, and had been terribly upset when her two older sisters each failed their tests. In this respect, she was her mother's last hope, but Caitelyn was not at all sure she wanted anything to do with being an Aes Sedai. Preferring to keep to herself, Caitelyn was fairly sure she was not the type to live in the Grey Tower and work with other people constantly, but it was futile to argue this fact with her mother; she had been trying for months with little success.

So Caitelyn had conceded defeat. She got out of bed, ate some fruit for breakfast, and then went back to her own room to put on her best green dress, another thing that her mother had insisted upon. It was not meant for a long morning's ride to the Grey Tower, and Caitelyn was fairly sure that she was going to ruin the dress by the time she arrived. She didn't care about the dress itself, but wearing it to ride just seemed so wasteful.

She was past caring about the dress as she and her mother saddled their horses and rode out. Caitelyn didn't talk much as they rode, finding very little to say about a trip she hadn't asked for and didn't wanted to be making. Her mother talked enough for both of them about how wonderful Caitelyn's life in the Tower would be. She talked as if Caitelyn's passing her test were a simple formality, certain that her last remaining daughter would not disappoint her like her elder two.

For herself Caitelyn wasn't sure what she wanted. If she passed she would please her mother, something she'd always tried hard to, but she would have to deal with other people constantly, something she did not enjoy. At least if she failed she would be able to return to her own quiet room in her familiar home, but she wasn't sure what path her life could possibly take from there. Her older sisters had quickly been married off after failing their tests, but even her mother knew that was not likely for Caitelyn, who had never shown the least bit of interest in the boys her age.

Even as she arrived at the gate, Caitelyn felt unsure of herself. Her mother had to speak for her, asking where she might take her child to be tested. The guard frowned at them. "If the girl wants to be tested, she may go inside and ask for it herself." Her mother opened her mouth to protest, but Caitelyn was already walking forward. Leaving without having been tested was not an option, and it would certainly be easier to endure without her mother standing over her, so certain that she had to pass.

R eaching the foyer of the Tower, Caitelyn could only stand and watch as everyone bustled around her. She wasn't about to speak first, and it didn't look as if there were anyone around to help a visitor to the Tower at all. She was considering how long she should wait before returning to her mother to pretend failure when a tall woman in a blue dress walked up to her.

"Are you waiting for someone, child?

Caitelyn jumped. "Well...I was told...my mother said...if I wanted to be tested I was supposed to go inside, and ask?...

"You don't need to be tested at all" the tall woman explained. "It only takes an Aes Sedai one look to know if any woman nearby can channel, or be taught. And you can be, or I would not have had any reason to take notice of you in this crowd. I assume you came here hoping for that answer, so if you would follow me to the Mistress of Novices' office?"

"But...my mother...she's outside waiting. How will she know where I am if I don't return?

"Someone will inform her, child. But you need to come with me now."

Caitelyn had never been the sort to argue, so she quietly followed the woman down the hall, not at all sure she liked where this path was taking her.
