Aelyn Syndovar is an Altaran White Asha'man of the Grey Tower.

Description

Aelyn isn't particularly tall for a man, and he isn't particularly muscular, either. His eyesight is also not particularly stellar. These are things he's been aware of since he was a child. However, he's also been aware that he's always been more intelligent than the average person, and has no problem letting everyone know it, and has a habit of turning his nose up at people, even those taller than him. Perhaps the only people he doesn't do this to are his fellow Ajah members. He feels they understand him and can work with them better than others. Aelyn is the typical White Asha'man in that he distances himself from emotions in order to see the logic in things. He does have a sense of humor, but it seems to manifest itself when it would be out of context for others. He may see something funny that no one else sees, or he may be remembering a joke or something funny that happened to him earlier. He doesn't have much of a temper, always trying to keep control of emotions that could somehow upset his thoughts so that he can't think. He also considers himself an off-duty teacher, even though he does not teach many classes. He's always looking for some sort of logic, philosophy, or detail that can help others. While soldiers and novices appreciate this, Dedicated and Accepted do not. Because Aes Sedai and Asha'man have run the same gamut that he has, he lets their mistakes be their own. When he's not conducting some kind of business, or meeting with someone Aelyn can always be found with his nose in a book or writing in his notebook. When meeting with friends out of the context of Grey Tower business, he is generally jovial and fun to be around, but common ground and trust must be earned first.

As previously stated, Aelyn is smaller in physique than other men, but this was his choice. He saw that he could possibly pursue other avenues to make himself fitter, but he preferred studying and learning as much of the One Power as possible. Thus, the most exercise he gets is lifting piles of books from one place to another. Aelyn wears a small pair of spectacles when he is reading. Sometimes he wears them when he is not reading, and would just like to focus a bit more on a problem.

Biography

Aelyn was born the first son of a guardsman of the Tarasin Palace. His father had lofty dreams of his son following in his footsteps and taking up his position, like an heir. Luckily for his father, Aelyn was not the only son born to this family. By the time he turned four, about the time that it became apparent that he was not idolizing his sword and lance wielding father and dreaming of the day that he could be just like him, his twin brothers were born, who seemed to want to take up the helm. No one was really sure what made Aelyn want to read and study as much as he did. His mother was a feisty woman who was a noted blacksmith who also seemed baffled by her son's aptitude and want for the written word. Regardless of his want for something unwanted by his family, they loved him, and he loved them back.

By the time he was in his teens, Aelyn noticed something peculiar about himself. Things would happen around him that he couldn't explain, and they seemed to happen when he was focusing too hard on something, or he was letting his mind wander. Strange things, like things flying off shelves, or people who excelled at being terrible being shocked by an unseen hand across the face. Things like this happened until he realized that he must be responsible for them somehow, and he tried to control them, but it was hard to control something that he didn't know anything about, or even what it was. He lived with this oddity for a few years, and started to begin to feel it grow. He had a suspicion of what it was, but he kept it to himself. It wasn't until a man in a black coat and an indigo cord approached him and told him that he was in fact channeling the One Power. The Asha'man was from the Grey Tower, and told Aelyn all about it. He was thrilled to have so many questioned answered at once, and with the blessing of his family, even if reluctant blessings, he left to join as a soldier.

Aelyn discovered during his time in the Grey Tower that his ability was much easier to control once he got the hang of it. Saidin was something that had to be wrangled, but it made perfect sense to him. He found that he had a knack for Fire, Earth was a close second, then Air and Spirit, and he was nearly useless in Water. He enjoyed the studies that he conducted in the Tower, and even with the chores, Aelyn loved every moment in the Tower. He became a Dedicated after seven years, and when the time came, he took the White Ajah as his home. It is with the White Ajah that he can make sense of the world and help others do the same.
